December 2013 Training Goals

Postby La » Sun Dec 01, 2013 8:20 pm

Well, I only have 9 days of running in December to meet my 50-day streak goal, but with Disney in mid-Jan, I still have quite a few miles to log. Taper will start the Monday before Christmas, so there are still 3 weeks to go before I can start cutting back. After December 9 I will switch to a 5-day/wk running schedule. As a result, my mileage will probably be about the same as November (200-ish kms). I expect I'll run about 24 days in December.

May - Sulphur Spring 100 miler - DNS
Sept - Army HM
Sept/Oct - 50 miler

My training for Boston starts 2 weeks from today, so I've got 2 more weeks of more or less easy base mileage, and then I'll be back at the grind for 16 weeks.
Keep on rolling, just a mile to go. Keep on rolling my old buddy, you're moving much too slow.

November went really well for me, so I'm planning for another good month. :) It will be more of the same, probably getting a bit over 200K by the end. I will miss a few days due to travel and other stuff, but I'll still have lots of time to run.

I never post in these threads, but yesterday was the start of "official" training for Boston so may as well note it here. Can't remember the last time I followed a training plan, and I won't follow one to the letter, but I'll use it as a guide and create some accountability. From Dec 21 - 28 I'll be visiting family in BC, and I know that will be a week of reduced running. Especially if it's raining. If we stay with one particular sister, and the weather is good enough to run outside on a regular basis, I'll get in some good hill workouts for sure. She literally lives partway up a mountain and there are very few flat stretches. The compensation is some gorgeous views across the Fraser Valley, especially on sunny days when there is fresh snow on the mountains. :)

So the essence of my goal is to track my running against the training plan, and try not to have too much down time while away.

Try to shake off the lethargy and work in some cross training.
Run 4 times per week
Swim 1-2 times per week
Spin bike at least once a week

Just copied from November, will try more of the same this month. I've given up on spin class for now but I will try to use the bike in the gym in the building.

I was hoping to have a good month in December and get a nice round number for year end, but today's blizzard may put a dent in that.

Would like to get >400km in spite of this.

I hadn't even looked at my yearly total until now. I'm a little over 1500km for the year so far. No way I'm going to make 2000, 1600 is a given (as long as I don't get injured), so looks like 1700 will be my target.

I've already surpassed last year's 1300kms. My previous high was 1520 in 2011. I didn't track reliably before then.

I was curious about this after you wrote this so I checked my stats. I've done just over 1400k this year which isn't too bad for the crappy running year I've had. I'll be just over 1600 for the year. Looking for a better year in 2014!

Not sure of mileage but will be a little more than last month. I've done one speed workout since the end of August so I might do a workout or two this month.

Not much planned for me this month. I have been taking it easy since Philly last month. I started going to the dome for indoor intervals again last week. I will start ramping up the mileage again next month to train for Ottawa.

Had a pretty consistent year for 2013 - just over 1600 km for the year.

Lots of cross training in spring and early summer while training for triathlon. Not sure what's on tap for 2014 yet other than a marathon in November.

Done for the month, done for the year!

I had a great month- 228k which is almost the same as August (previously my highest month of the year before my little injury setback in September).

That ends the year for me at over 1700k (higher than I originally thought because I had forgotten to count some treadmill runs from the early months of the year when I was using a different log). That's a relatively low year for me but I'm very satisfied considering I was in recovery mode much of the time.

Bring on 2014!

I am going to take today off, ending the year with just over 3000 km . I'll get back at it tomorrow. Training for the Ottawa Marathon starts soon.

Due to bad weather and other life things, I only ran 20 times in December for a total of 217.7kms. Yearly mileage was 1700.6kms (a new high for me).

December was 464km on 28 runs, which puts me at 5210km total for the year. 14km per day average for 2013, zero injuries: have to be pleased with that.

2013 was not a good year: 250K for the first 6 months and 400K for the second six months, which makes a grand total of 650K for the whole year.

I didn't set a specific goal for December, except to get my training in gear. Ended with 103 miles (168km), which is my second highest month of 2013 and I'm happy with it!

A "little more" ended up being 1 km more than last month. I also got in 4 workouts this month.

Overall a great year of running. Hoping for the same in 2014.
