here's the prognosis!! :( Update on the *HEEL*

Wed had the second of two shots of cortisone in my heel. Doctor diluted the one syringe and gave two shots - one on each side of the back of the heel - Picture this, me kneeling on a chair leaning on the back of the chair and my derriere in the air directed at the poor man's face
Thank goodnes I did not have broccoli or cauliflower for lunch
It really did not hurt that much, well maybe a little but it was done with great skill - believe me!

I have not walked much as he has told me that I can only have another shot in 6-8 months and after that if no better a specialist's visit will be warranted. So far so good, not bad at all. I can get back to walking end of next week.

Take care all - bye for now

EDIT!!! Hey folks, I walked a whole bunch yesterday in Brockville with my seniors. Not too bad today at all just a bit on the tender side.
Guess things are on the up and up and tomorrow I am planning - note: planning, to get out for a 1km walk. Not much, I know but I am trying to get myself back in shape - this is rediculous! I am so fedup hanging around.
Bye for now - enjoy the beautiful weather.

p.s not sure how to edit the title so doing my post anyway :)

As most of you know I have been battling with plantar-fas...(whatever, can never spell it) for the past 4 months, physio etc etc WELL, the xrays show a heel spur, which I was pretty sure was there, plus a spur into the achilles tendon.
At the doctor's today, he is a very good ortho-guy, he gave me cortisone in the bottom of the heel. I go back in 3 weeks if it is no better for another one. He will only do two injections - no more.

To help the spur in the achilles tendon, he has to do it in two injections. He dilutes the cortisone and does it on each side of the tendon.
If that fails, then it is surgery which I do not want to have done. Apparently the operation is quite tricky and if not done super-correct the healing can take up to two year
I also have a prescription
special sock call a Silopad Achilles Heel Pad with gel inside it. It goes over the heel and the gel goes over the bump caused by the spur to ease the pain so I can wear a closed shoe. The gel has some med in it to help the swelling.

He feels, and hopes, the three weeks will help. I have to take it really easy for 4 days then I can resume walking - IF - there is no pain after 10 days.

Keep your fingers crossed for me because I am going TOTALLY INSANE not being able to get outside and walk!!!
4 months of being hurt is enough.

Will keep you all posted, but remember, I am watching all your posts so be good

Katie,

I had a cortisone shot on my Achilles because of my foot pain that lasted for months.

After 3 weeks I was able to resume walking and gradually start running again.

Stay optimistic about all this Katie, not all turns into worst scenarios!

Take good care of yourself.

I am concerned now. :? It has been four days since I had the *shot*.
It still hurts, not as much mind you, but the sharp needle pain in both the heel and the achilles tendon is still there.
Shouldn't it have lessened off more than it has - or am I being impatient?
I go back on June 17 for a second shot and then we go on from there.
He told me 7-10 days I could resume walking, not much, maybe 1km or so but if today is any indication I won't be able to do even that. We went for a drive, did a bit of grocery shopping but sat in the car most of the day.
grrrr....guess I am just so fedup with not being able to do much I am impatient!!!

Thanks for any input :)

Hugs, Karen.

I can totally sympathise. I've had stubborn heel pain for two months now. So far doc is avoiding the idea of a cortisone shot-- last resort. I suspect I'll have to be in pain for a few more months before he decides to try it.

I'm not sure what to say about your concern about still feeling the pain, but I suspect that's to be expected-- check with your doctor, though.

:(

Injuries suck.

Katy from my experience, the first couple days after the shot I had lost all pain, or any sensation for that matter. It felt as if everything was loose in there. After that the pain came back but not as bad as before.
I did some gently stretching after a week. Not much walking. Waiting for the 3 weeks prescribed. I started running just a few km and some walking. It took a while to get better but i did.

It is possible that you case was more serious than mine, therefore taking more time to heal.

I understand your frustration AND fear of what is to become of all this.

Keep faith putting your trust in the one that could help you get through. Doing everything you can and asking God's help. That is the best combination I can think of.

Thanks for your input and advice :)

I think the saying "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree" applies here. bruyere is very much like her Mum.....when injured can't wait to get going again
I shall be patient......or try to be....and wait the 3 weeks with only a bit of walking end of this week

Thanks ladies!

How are you doing Katy?

Not too badly, thank you. Did a fair bit of walking last Thursday and
the ankle and foot were tender on the weekend - upside today is that I think the lump on the achilles tendon is a bit smaller.
It is not a pronounced as it has been. that is a bonus for sure!
Maybe things are on the turnaround.

Will see what Dr.Page says next week. Until then I am not going to head out on the street, guess I am afraid of a flareup before I see him.

Thanks - take care of yourself/ves

You sound so much like me at the same time after I got my cortisone shot. Meaning a week or two after.
