Ultrarunner Magazine

Postby Size5 » Fri Dec 01, 2006 9:04 pm

I don't know if any of the other ultrarunners read this magazine http://www.ultrarunning.com/ but I've been a subscriber for a couple of years. Every issue has a colum titled "experiment of one" and this month is on the sharpening phase. It is a great colum with a decently aggressive training plan for a 50 miler hilly race. Others might want to consider a subscription - it is a great resouce for write ups on other ultra races. If I can get someone to scan the program in for me I"ll post it...

It was really you that I thought about when I read the training program because I though how you'd be able to handle the mileage suggested and be challenged by the program. Its only a 12 week program though....

See blue_cup this is what makes me happy about this discussion - YOU ASK!!! Sister, there is only one way to learn and that is cool!

I'm really just another regular runner here along with many of the people who show up to do ultras. Don't ever forget that or think I (we) are different than you, because I (we) am not.

Maybe we'll have to trade subscriptions - I get Trailrunner and Marathon & Beyond :-)

OK, so the longest training run for a 50-miler is 30 miles. So, for a marathon that would be 25K or 16 miles. That aligns with stuff like the Hanson training method. The doubles and the training on consecutive days has the same effect as the extra-long run????

I've been a bit disappointed with the fullfillment side of Trail Runner - every issue I've received takes at least 3-4 weeks to arrive after they announce via e-mail that it is being mailed. It's usually on the local shelves for two weeks before my copy shows up. Great magazine, but they really need to do something about getting it to Canadian subscribers in a timely fashion.

I'd like to check out Marathon & Beyond, but I can't find it on the shelves locally. Can I borrow a couple of issues, please?

You can, I am warning you though, they are addictive little books :-) Some of my older issues are still packed, but I've got 3 or 4 issues handy.
