anyone wanna go snowshoeing in edmonton?
anyone wanna go snowshoeing in edmonton?
all summer i was looking for a good trail through blackmud and whitemud creeks. well, while walking my dog in the ravine tonight, it hit me- the creek is frozen (duh...)
so i'm gonna buy showshoes and hit up this sweet frozen trail sometime soon. a daytime expedition would be fun, but i think in the dark with headlamps would be more fun. some of the creek is packed trail, some is XC ski track, and some is just snow with animal tracks.
i think the best 'untouched' scenery is gonna be south of 23rd ave, in either ravine. plus, it's close to where i live.
this is where i'm thinkin.

so i think im gonna check it out tomorrow evening. you're all invited to join me, or you can take a raincheck until after the Fat Ass run.

But I don't own snowshoes. :(
neither do i but i'm gonna fix that problem tomorrow.
Gearboy, what do you recommend? i'm looking at the Atlas Run model.
they're so expensive! I could buy 3 pairs of running shoes for the price of a pair of snowshoes. lol
(priorities... ;)

blackmud creek was a bit rough - lots of cracking ice today and i had to break a lot of trail. whitemud creek was awesome though. there are skidoo tracks and a nicely packed trail. i went without snowshoes- wouldn't have needed them much today. however, i'm very glad i had poles and gaiters. i'll try to take my camera along next time. it's so nice down there.

When I'm done healing up, I'd love to go SS with you.
I run in Atlas DT-SLs. Got them two years ago and they are very very cool. I think that this year Atlas replaced the DT-SLs with the Atlas Race and the DTs with the Atlas Runs. If you are looking for a racing/running SS (vice a backcountry deep snow shoe) then these babies are just the ticket. Very light and very runnable.
