Ontario 5Peaks Schedule

Postby SALTY-DOG » Thu Jan 11, 2007 11:36 am

For all those planning out their trail running season ...

April 28, 2007 - ALBION HILLS CA, Palgrave
Sport 5K Enduro 10K
Picking up from the series championship of 2006, 5Peaks returns to Albion Hills for opener of the 2007 series. This is a great venue to ease into the trail running season as the rolling sandy hills of the Oak Ridges Moraine provide excellent spring time trail conditions. The 2006 courses have been shortened for 2007
June 9, 2007 - Durham Forest, Uxbridge
Sport ~5K Enduro ~12K
The relentless hills and singletrack trails of the Durham Forest were overwhelmingly popular with 5Peaks runners last year. The event is intimate and very rewarding for participants of all levels. The 2006 courses have been improved for 2007.
July 14, 2007 - Rattlesnake Point, Milton
Sport 4.5K Enduro 12.7K
Touted as perhaps the most technical of the Ontario courses, Rattlesnake has continually been a favourite. Situated along the Niagara Escarpment, runners are treated to the shade hardwood forests and some incredible single track. Same routes as 2006. Gate fees to be included in registration, no line ups!
August 11, 2007 - Mono Cliffs
Sport 6.6K Enduro ~11.2K
Returning for a third season, Mono Cliffs offers exceptional vistas and challenging but enjoyable terrain. Both courses will have the opportunity to "Swim to Win" for awesome prizes. New Sport course, Enduro course is the same as 2006.
August 24, 2007 - "Nocterra" Cold Creek CA, Nobleton
~7K Night Trail Run
With the aid of your headlamp and the glowstick course markers, participants wil experience a new dimension in trail running. This event is a recreational trail run and is not part of any of the 5Peaks points series. Registration for this unique and exciting event is limited to 200 participants. A portion of the registration fee will be donated to the Cold Creek Stewardship Group.
September 22, 2007 - Horseshoe Valley Resort, Barrie
Sport 6K Enduro 15K Half 21K
2007 Ontario Series Championship will be hosted at Horseshoe Valley Resort. With premier amenties, incredible race courses, and an awesome awards ceremony, you won't want to miss this event. For accommodation details and special rates, please call Horseshoe Valley Resort at 1-800-461-5627 or visit www.horseshoeresort.com

I'll be in for as many as my schedule allows for sure. I don't think I had as big a grin at the end of any race last year as I did at Rattlesnake. Good to hear that the 1/2 hour lineup to get in is fixed.
next up:

This broken wing will fly again
One fine day
This blackbird's mute gonna sing again
One fine day

So all you sinners come out
And all you drunkards crawl out
Come into the light of one fine day

Looks like I've just run out of excuses!

Thanks for the breakdown of the events ... all I've ever heard is that Rattlesnake is evil  !

I did the enduro course at Rattlesnake last year. It was hard, in a yummy pain kind of way, but a great course.

I'll likely be out to one (Mono) , I've run a couple in the past and always had a great time and a great run.

I'd like to try the Mono Cliffs race, and the fact that the night race is on a Friday makes it more interesting... Looks like a good series, interesting options!

I'm very interested in running a few, but i am also a bit afraid of rolling on my ankle on the technical courses during marathon training (Rattlesnake point esp).

Is Mono very technical?

Maybe we can get the Ontario 5Peaks folks to talk to the rest of the 5Peaks folks to get a Nationwide RM discount. ;-)

I might be interested in the Rattlesnake and the Mono Cliffs runs. It's great to know there are some nice trail races in the area, with the added bonus of a RM group discount.

There are some isolated rocky outcrops, but it has a lot of sandy gravelly trails and hills.. So, rocky in spots, not as extensively as Rattlesnake.

Yes indeed  a discount will be a great incentive. That plus the sign up for five and get the fifth free makes this really economical  . I did Rattlesnake last year and it was my first trail run. It wasn't easy, but then I had slacked off on my running in the month before the race. I got what I deserved, however, it wasn't as difficult as I thought it may have been. This year I will do better :!: See you on the trails.

Cheers
