Losing my Soul.....(weekly update)
Week 1 of Training
All my workouts went well this week. I didn't run spectacular on Thursday but that was the only day. I raced this week which served to illustrate how badly I will need to focus on hill training. Often with ultra's they encourage you to walk up the hills since the energy expended to run them is so high. However, with 3000ft of elevation change at Lost Soul's, I really don't think walking up all the hills is going to be an option!
Sunday I went for a hike but managed to snag myself a series of blisters. I just hope they heal enough to run on Tuesday. A couple of them are under the calluses on the bottom of my feet (ouchie!).
I liked being back into structured workouts. I liked the challenge (sort of) of the progression run this week. I like being coached because I realize there is NO WAY I'd ever do that progression run on my own....
Total distance week 1 83 km (includes my hike)

You might be ok walking the hills.
I'm actually not worried about the cut off times (in fact I'm such an idiot that I didn't know there WERE cut off times). I want a good result for me. I've run a LOT this year and I should be able to run a decent race out there (and even run some hills) if I train for it....
A decent race for me, on that day, that is my goal.

Week 2 of training
I did much better running hills this week with a long email full of pointers from the coach. I ran ALL my hills this week - where as normally I'd wimp out and walk most of them. I did however find the 20 min AT run next to impossible to do.... and I hated it.
I tried to bring myself to actually look at the race couse information but I spent about 10 minutes reading stuff before I wigged out so I put it away. I've already had the "I dont' know if this is such a good idea" thought.
It has been particularly hot here - which has made training this week more challenging. I think it was around 29C when I finished running on Saturday. I was spent!
Total distance this week:77kms

Just put those thoughts away until you finish the race then start babbling about 'never again'
Dwayne
I run distance because I want to be in good shape when I die.

Yes you did and I think it's on this website too....... or something pretty close to that.
WEEK 3 of training
I thought training went decently this week. I've already noticed a difference in my ability to run hills which I'm going to need for LSU. I'm FREAKED by the elevation change in this race.
I did my long run in the mountains this weekend. I ran UP the canyon (which got me all kinds of WILD looks). I even did it early in the morning in an effort to avoid the looks. My mom thought it was weird I was running for so long..... I tried to break it to her gently that I'd be doing another ultra in September
Lower mileage week...
Total Distance = 63kms

Don't be...you sound like you're running really strong on the hills, so you'll be well prepared.
I'm in Lethbridge right now...it's beautiful country out here. I'll bet the LSU is an amazing race!! Keep up the strong training.
Lifetime race count: 6 Halfs, 6 Fulls, part of a Death Race, some 10Ks thrown in there too
Marathon #5 dedicated to my sister and all cancer survivors...please see this link for my dedication: http://www3.telus.net/ccandhh
I'd like to be a glowworm, a glowworm's never glum; 'cause how can you be grumpy when the sun shines out your bum?

WEEK 4 of training
As I write this I've got IMLP live feed running in the background... Let me just say that one day I really really want a tatoo! But back to ultra training....
This past week was just so so. Tuesday I fell and ran poorly, Wednesday I still ran poorly. Thursday I took as a rest day and Friday was an ok run. I seem my hill ability improving but I dont' feel like I"ve build the same endurance. Maybe it is all there.... and this portion of training is more focused on strength but man I felt tired this weekend. I ran out at Blackfoot for about 4 hrs. It was SO hot, it really was unpleasant.... and meanwhile I kept hearing this chatter of how it "could be this hot down in Lethbridge" UGH!
TOTAL DISTANCE this week = 70kms

I only mentioned it maybe twice. Not like you did mention the heat more than few times anyway.
I'm busy freaking myself out on a regular basis....... I don't need any extra help.
Besides you too could find it hot in Lethbridge if you chose to run the race

Yeah this is coming from the guy that stated "oh I'm not a runner" and "oh the most I'd do is MAYBE a half marathon"......
But seriously, he is/was considering making a racing debut at 50kms - what the HE** is with that???????????
*sigh* this is probably why I'm single........ I drive people I've dated to want to run ultras...........
