When you run Boston with Ridiculous Enthusiasm..*now with text!

Postby purdy65 » Fri Apr 21, 2017 9:37 am

Wow. Your story is eerily similar to my first Boston....so similar. The heat, walking the hills looking at the chalk signs written in the roadway, the left on Boylston. Something that stays with me every day. Congratulations! I'm so happy for you!

I plan to. I tracked down their full names using their bib numbers and I knew where they were from so I have managed to find contact info for them both. We formed quite a bond during those tough miles and I would like to be in touch with them.

Such a cool story.

Huge, huge congrats!!! What a beautiful report from a beautiful person and runner :). I loved following your RE on Marathon Monday, Cheryl! It's infectious!!! Keep it coming :). I have no doubt you'll be back.
We train more joyfully and productively when we focus on the now, rather than on our future race day performance. It's a long road from here to there with many miles to go. We need to run each one. Accept where you are today and simply be thankful for the work you've accomplished. KA

Dear Maniacs,

I've read back over all your replies several times and they make me so thankful to be a part of such a great online community. Most of you have been a part of this journey to Boston for many years and I want you to know that you each played a part in my accomplishing this goal. THANK YOU.

I hope I can repay the support and encouragement in some small way. I will do my best to be ridiculously enthusiastic for each of you in turn.

Like Lisa said, your story sounds like my first run in Boston as well....heat wave and 4:39:xx. My slowest marathon ever. It's not an easy course and coming off the winter weather it's hard to run with any heat, let alone a lot of heat!! It's all about the experience though. Once you realize that it's not going to be a "race" it sort of takes some pressure off I think ,and you can just go along and enjoy (as much as possible) the experience. As hard as the race can get at times, there's nothing like crossing a Boston finish line. Way to go!!! Awesome!!

My goodness, what a wonderful adventure you had. You wrote such a vivid and thrilling report that I could just imagine your joy at the end of the race. Oh, so very well done, Ms. Melonhed. Congratulations!
