Is it fair?
One of the bigger stories out of the Paralympics this week was the top four runners in the T13 1,500m final running a faster time than the Olympic gold medallist in the 1,500m from a month earlier. Matt Centrowitz, the Olympic 1,500m champion, ran 3:50.00 in a highly-tactical race last month, the sl...

ORW Pace Bunny Report: 2016
I have doing this accountability report every year for the past while to let people know how well pacers did at Race Weekend (and Army Run). My goal is to have as many pacers as possible within 30 seconds of their time in 10k and within a minute in the half and marathon. Obviously it was an amazing ...

Re: ORW Weather Forecast . . .
I am going to assume that most people who had shortened races at ORW were making smart health decisions (or were having those decisions made for them) regardless of their pace. I had 2 pacers DNF in the marathon and 1 in the half, and several others well off mark (as well as a lot of really really a...

Re: ORW Weather Forecast . . .
Hopefully, there was not too much of a convergence between the speedy 3 hour or so marathoners and the lead pack of the half marathoners at Sussex, and last 3K along the canal, due to the earlier start time for the half marathon start time ... Hopefully, the Race Organizers will keep this as an ear...

Re: ORW Weather Forecast . . .
Race Weekend always makes me proud of the city. The level of community support is incredible. Perhaps John Tory should come to visit to see what real cities do to make themselves big. The city embraces the marathon. The hoses, sprinklers, freezie stations, water bottles, extra water stations, mistin...

Re: Rob Watson comes shy of Rio2016 while in London
30 years ago a guy could run 2:07 while working as an aircraft mechanic. What changed? Professional athletics. 30 years a guy HAD to work because you had to be an amateur to compete at the Olympics. Kenyans and Ethopians. There is now a way to make a living for a greater number in the sport. We had...

Re: Did She or Didn't She Run Boston 2016??
You mean running marathons is not about the medal, the jacket, the photo and the praise of others? It is not about the bling? :what: You mean it could be about focusing on a goal, putting in the work, challenging yourself and delivering. It is about the journey as much as the destiny? Huh. Interesti...

+1 If only for the podcasts. Someone who seemed to have fun running the marathon at an elite level. A good marathoner but perhaps never meant to go sub 2:12.

Re: Just in Time for Boston--There are cheaters in your mids
i'm the odd duck, but i could totally understand why someone would cheat to run boston. and how they would still enjoy it. i mean, the roar of crowds as you're down boylston isn't dimmer just because you cheated to get there. sure, you're only getting the thrill of running the race and a lifetime o...

Re: Just in Time for Boston--There are cheaters in your mids
It's not on my A list of atrocities or concerns, but it does impact someone. What you see depends on where you sit. Perhaps the BAA could help things by allowing qualified runners who have registered to sell their bibs back to the other runners who have qualified. This would at least reduce the numb...

Re: Just in Time for Boston--There are cheaters in your mids
You would be picked up by the first screening, but pass all the others--other marathons, other halves etc... Wonder if they factor in the good Boston weather versus the bad Boston weather. Almost everyone who ran in the 2012 heat would have a Boston time a lot. slower than their BQ. It is likely tha...

Maybe they could introduce spot checks in Hopkinton, there is a lot of time hanging around at the school. Run the numbers. Spot the bibs. Laptop computer, flashlight, maybe a taser and a rope and we could have public outings and shaming as part of the Boston tradition. :D Still don't buy the fireman...

Re: Just in Time for Boston--There are cheaters in your mids
Interesting... I'm curious about whether (or how often) these vigilantes have had "false positives", wherein they have outed what seemed like a probable cheater who in fact had come by a time honestly. Thinking a decade back, I ran a 3:10 BQ somewhat out of the blue (at least as far as ot...

Just in Time for Boston--There are cheaters in your midst!!
From Boston Dad to Canadian triathlete Judy Miller the stories of cheating keep piling up. Perhaps the numbers are small, However along with pathetic stories of the Boston Dads who seek sad recognition for something they don't deserve or the Judy Millers who seek a medal that they don't deserve, the...
