Re: A First Pair of Trail Shoes
I LOVE Montrail shoes. I have a few different styles for different trail terrain: Masocists, Fairhavens and Rockridges. I also do not overpronate but need the variety for different terrain types.

Re: Right side of the Martin Goodman Trail!
IMHO he got poor legal advice. He should have sued for lost wages, etc. I suspect the military would have settled much faster with something similar to what he is currently requesting. Even if he is partially to blame (which I find questionable) this group most probably holds some legal responsibili...

Re: Run for the Toad - Training Run
This is so tempting! I'm doing Vulture Bait mid-October and doing the Toad too seems perhaps too much but I am so tempted to sign up now so I can do it as well as the the training run. I imagine my SO will consider this crazy!

Re: Advice on hydration packs/camelbacks
Hmm, maybe I'll have to peer around online ~ maybe I can order it from a Canadian company via the web? (I've found it online in the US but the shipping rates are crazy....).

Re: Advice on hydration packs/camelbacks
Nathan has come out with a women's one but I haven't been able to find it in Canada. Camel has one that has storage in the front, stores 3L and is super light (Octane XCT) that I'm considering as well...

I emailed Bush, Run Ottawa and Race Merchandise about this. I'll have to peer into my garbage bin but haven't noticed an email from them. This does seem strange advice

Re: The Sears Great Canadian Run - Ottawa - October 15
Hi JWolf, I guess bottom line for me the model these events are run on bothers me. There was another one organized in Ottawa this year that was organized as a 5/10 and there was tons of ads for it on the A Channel (which did seem to promote it as a race) and you had to go about 3 pages into the webs...

Re: The Sears Great Canadian Run - Ottawa - October 15
Well out of all the races that were focused on charity that I attended this year, I still see the Do It For Dad model as the best. They raised substantial funds for a small 5/10 event on a Sunday morning AND increased awareness about men's cancers by having a low entry fee that lead more people to e...

Re: Anyone running the Mont Tremblant 1/2?
Crash did you do it last year? Dr. S, I appreciate the info. From your sig, it appears you can travel a lot furthur than I can for races :D so inspite of the limitations you listed, I believe I'll enjoy it. I was definately aware it was going to be hot so PB is not in the cards ~ if it ends up being...

Re: How did you get started and tips
I'm with Ultraslacker on this. I'm female and nervous about getting lost. That doesn't necessarily mean I should never set foot on a trail. I consider this similar to the debate in Ottawa about cycling. They are considering adding lanes for cyclists. Some current cyclists don't want this as they pre...

Anyone running the Mont Tremblant 1/2?
Hi Everyone,
This race starts a little later than ideal, but I decided it could be fun. It's on the 14th of August. Is anyone else going to run it?

Re: The Sears Great Canadian Run - Ottawa - October 15
 800$! I guess I won't be doing this race. I get the reasoning behind this type of fundraising minimum but I'll never enter a race organized this way. First, I figure I donate way more than the average Canadian (between donations and the number of runs I do that put money towards a cause). Se...

Re: LeonKomposky is a Spartan - with pics now
I appreciate the honest evaluation. I'd considered this race and decided against it because their ad style rubbed me the wrong way ~ hard to pinpoint what exactly but generally it felt too "are you strong enough to be one of us" type things did match up with my approach to running ~ doing ...

Re: Country's Do It For Dad
Hi Doug, It wasn't planned. I had signed up for DIFD awhile ago. On the Monday (6 days prior) to the 1/2 I found out about it. As it was local, I wanted to support it so I decided to run it as well. Now that said, I ran the 1/2 very slowly. I had a 21 training run scheduled so I just did it instead....

Re: Country's Do It For Dad
Hi Andy,
I did my first 5 at the Redemption Run. I'm planning on doing another 5 tommorow. I enjoy 10 because when I'm driving 2 hours to get to Ottawa (and often another 2 hours to get my race stuff a day earlier) I feel that 10 is long enough to justify the drive

Re: Country @ Bush's Canada Day 10
Hi Andy, I did a quick peek about when I finished but I imagine all the maniacs were on the 5 k course by the time I finished. I'd promised my family I'd bust it home for our holiday plans after the race. I do have the birthday party on my calendar, so unless something prevents me from going, hopefu...

Country @ Bush's Canada Day 10
My time was just over 55 minutes and truly I felt that I did really horribly at this race. But to start with the good points: 1 - Despite wussing out and walking a ton I ran in 55 minutes, which is faster than my first run this year which felt all out so my fitness is improving 2 - My pace for the f...

Country's Do It For Dad
This was a lovely race ~ very nice quality t-shirt (hoping for girls sizes next year), fun basic food afterwards (including b-fast!) and quite affordable @ 30$. The course was nice. I heard several people complaining about the hills but it felt pretty flat to me. We started in the middle of the cour...

Re: What is that smell??
Hi, It is definitely the graphic. I only paid 28 something with the Run Ottawa club discount so I figure it will still be a fun race. But I was thinking about how BAD the course is going to smell if a lot of people wear their shirts! I had to put mine in the trunk because it was giving me a headache...

Re: Canada Day Races / Race Kit -- Kanata / Ottawa
I got my stuff tonight too. Honestly I was disappointed about the blue shirt and they did smell similar to burnt tires. I had to put it in the boot of the car as it was giving me a headache ~ but the graphics were cute and it was cool to see the run club logo on the front of the shirt.

Mine did the same thing today at Do It For Dad. My gun time/chip time were the same but I pushed the 'start' on my watch when I crossed the starting mat and it was about 30 seconds faster.

Country's Community Run for Hope
Hi Everyone, So this is my second ½ marathon. I only found out about it last Monday and wasn’t sure if I was going to do it, but decided to ditch my long run today and support this new run in hopes it will run again in our community. Our power was off last night so I decided if I got up early enough...
