Re: Saturday in the sun . . .

Yes, it's Sunday, but I ran this yesterday (season best): according to Garmin: 22.54 km, 3:27 hrs., avg. pace 9:10/km, ascent 1230 m. I can do better, pretty sure of that. It's a hilly course, some trails in Mount Royal park and adjacent regions, but I can adjust to reduce the pavement and increase ...

Re: Back to the deep freeze Monday Thread

I did the 90 minute commute home via Mount Royal, and blessedly, did not feel the cold in the wind, but it was strong enough to slow you down. Ice everywhere and more dangerous after dark. Felt great, with uncommon speed using trail shoes.

Re: trail and ultra blogs and sites

Yeah, Grey is very active on country roads in winter. Haven't checked the summer archives. Found a smattering of true trail events local to me in 2014, but the 'pavement pounders' are still the main draw. Here's a doping story from overseas - http://www.u-trail.com/77678-dopagemillau/ in French, but...

Re: Ottawa to Toronto run.

Sorry, my bad. There is a 'publicity' angle to your effort (that precludes unpaved roads, let alone trails), and I'm sure (?) your support staff has or will ask(ed) all the hard questions. Best wishes! (AED stands for "Automated external defibrillator".)

Re: Ottawa to Toronto run.

Well, my cousin's a doctor and he keeps reminding me that the original 'inventor' of jogging was a U.S. doctor who collapsed and died of cardiac failure while jogging. We don't need bad publicity (hah!), so get yourself checked out, and by that I mean get a second opinion. My very personal opinion i...

Marathon des Glaces, Rougemont, PQ, 15/02

Hello! My first ever organized semi-marathon was held in beautiful downtown Rougemont, PQ, today. If trying to derive vital nutrition from slush-cold gatorade-equivalent ("X-something" brand) while the cold north wind bites you and throws hypothermia into the mix is your bag, then you were...

Hello Everyone! :help: Due to a request to change vacation dates, I'm looking for a Canadian event this March or April, prefer trails to pavement, will run snow covered roads. Distance? Half-marathon is possible, as I've been fortunate to have started running already. Still commuting via a 'run for ...

Re: Slip Slidin' Sunday

Slacking off since mid-Nov., first snow here was 'frozen in concrete' that made even walking painful. Sick three days this week with the current version of the flu (hint: it felt like neurological collapse). But the memories of the season keep me going, that and watching "trail running videos&q...

A tad faster today on the same path as Monday, Tuesday being a recovery day. Need a headlamp on Mount Royal park these days, and besides, it makes you visible to cyclists (most are without any lighting).

Fantastic run home from work in short pants. You could tell (even in the darkness) that the runners wearing shorts were enjoying themselves in the balmy weather.

Too tired to post yesterday; completed an 8 hour rogaine in Gatineau Park organized by the Ottawa Orienteering Club. Got up at 0400 to drive there, was ready for rain but it never came. My last minute partner was unbelievably good in every way, considering she might be a marathoner (can't confirm th...

Re: My heaven's - it's late Saturday thread!!

A fine week, after a whole week off (not the first one this summer). Tried out a new pair of trail running shoes (Salomon XA Pro 3D GTX M12). But that means switching shoes back to pavement shoes during the run. Cool weather has me wishing to register for a trail race. Anyone has ideas? Despite the ...

Probably a rest day. Still haven't seen the Garmin data for our 32km Rogaine of Aug.25. But did buy a pair of barely used Salomon trail shoes to celebrate (!) Week-past wise, can't complain. Mini-bonked on Monday (still recovering is my excuse), came back strong the rest of the week. Cooler weather ...

Hi Jogger Barbie: What caused the back injury and who is treating you? Maybe a sports doctor who runs is a better choice, if available. GI problems - diet or other causes? If you're not running with a smile, you're suffering without a purpose. If your early mornings are miserable, drink some sweeten...

Seeing new(er) and also familiar runners on the trails on Mount Royal. Also seeing groups or classes. It's getting crowded! Add bicycles and things can get complicated. We need more green space!

Still pushing the envelope - extended my 'normal' commute home from work. It seemed the humidex was more tolerable today than in previous weeks.
