I'm doing Calgary as well - that's amazing that it's sold out. It wasn't that long ago that it was a relatively small number of fanatics trying to explain to our families our "new" new years eve plans. Running Angel - if you're near LAX I recommend hiding under a bed or desk. I've spend time in some...

I agree with the posts so far - RW is more mass-market, beginner oriented. It's also very repetitive, in that if you read it continuously for more than a year or you won't read anything new. It reminds me of how Mad magazine used to cobble together old articles to do special "new" issues now and the...

"Ice the Competition"
RW has some good tips this month - for temps dropping into the 40's and even into the 30's.
Such as: add hat and gloves to regular racing attire (5k)
or: half tights and polypropylene shirt (marathoner)
I guess their target audience is Houston and Atlanta.

If you use the membership then even at $50+ a month its worth it. If you've ever had a membership that you didn't use you know what I mean. I've been a member at a cheaper gym (e.g. no classes, long lineups for machines, no towels, no soap, broken machines) and it was money down the drain. Other thi...

Let me be a complete contrarian here - why don't you invite him for a run. Either he declines, in which case you're probably no worse off, or he accepts, in which case you can show off your skills. There's a lot of people who say things like "I used to run" or "I could run" - one way to shut them up...

Thanks jgore - you wouldn't know today I had a job writing html code for four months once. Dstew - I agree that the downtown pathways are better in the winter but I like the reservoir so much that its too tempting on nice days. I haven't done as much Elbow running and never in the winter - is it cle...

Glenmore Reservoir
I mentioned in anothe thread that I was going around the Reservoir today. It turned out to be a very good run, beautiful sun the whole way and very warm. As always, finish at the *$ at Glenmore. The usual sections are iced up. From the 37th street parking lot, all through the weaselhead and up the h...

Of all the races I've been in I've never seen prizes for walkers. How would you police that? They get participation medals, food, schwag, etc. but prizes are for first across the line. One runner I know said that having a race for walkers was like having a contest for seeing who could whisper the lo...

I'm using a 65 cm fitter ball (I'm 6') Our office manager can't quite understand why I'm giving up on my Aeron chair (which probably cost more than my car) for a $45 toy. Once you get comfortable with the ball, you can start doing things like rolling around, kneeling on it, doing little crunches. I ...

I ran manitoba for the first time this year (third marathon overall). I had a great 20 mile run and a really tough 6 mile walk. Not long after the water station on Lyndale, I just couldn't run any more. I was on track for a sub-4 time (my goal) but the heat was just too much. After the first mile or...

I have the MUVO for running. 256M is about right for a 2 hour run, I just pick the songs I want to hear on that run and I'm good to go. The next run, new songs. I can stick it in a pocket and ignore the controls (since I just picked the songs I don't need to forward it) I have an IPOD mini for ridin...

It's a great race and a fun day. The start and finish are at the Banff recreation grounds, just across the river from downtown. There's music, food, and fun all day. It's one of those rare events where you can bring the family and they can stay entertained while you're out on the course. Beer tent! ...
