I'm in.
I use strava for both running, cycling and skating and frequently get the type wrong. So I'm kind of hard to follow. But here we are.

Re: Too many events ?
We're lucky in Calgary that we have the pathways for smaller events. The number of events that close roads is relatively smaller.
But Jennifer is right. This is part of being a city. There's more to being a city than drivers driving around fast on arterial roads.

Re: best running shoe stores in Calgary?
cool. So I can do a north-south line, basically. I went to Strides once a few years ago and they really didn't have a selection (though they had some Puma stuff if I recall!). But depending on how I am getting around I will try to swing by there (hoping to convince my mom or sister that they want t...

Re: Run Commute and Training
A lot depends on what your run commute looks like stop-and-go wise. Mine is about 40% short blocks with a stoplight every block, and then 60% long blocks with a stop roughly every mile. The short blocks are useless for training. I've tried to do stoplight sprints but it just doesn't seem to work. Th...
Re: Need help
Just don't get discouraged by all the ankle-biters zipping past you in the relay. This. On top of the sun trying to kill you, you're struggling in after 35k, that flat open stretch on Bishop Grandin, and people who started 2k ago in the relay are ripping past you. Here's something I wrote about a g...
Re: Need help
It sounds like a good year.
I've done Manitoba twice, both years the Marathon was the first hot day of the year and nobody was prepared. Days like today (and the shorter runs in the heat between now and then) make you stronger.
Have fun.

Re: Boston Dad may have some explaining to do to his son
There's one person who has posted in the very long Runner's World online thread that went to the "real" media with this story. I'm not sure what to make of it. Yes, it seems as if there are no other times in his portfolio that indicate a 3:11 marathon, and his blog (which had a lot of boa...

Re: Beginners questions
My advice: it doesn't matter much what you're doing, as long as you're moving forward.
Don't overthink it. Don't start learning the lingo. Don't fuss over paces or plans or traing plans or anything that sounds like jargon. There'll be lots of time to overthink it later. Just run.

I have no doubt that it's mostly perceived, but not entirely. "Humiliating" is a strong word... "embarrassing" maybe.... whatever the word for just not being proud of your performance. Sometimes just making it to the end of the swim lane is enough to be proud of yourself, but at...

Why does it matter if you're in public? For many people it is difficult to put yourself out there and attempt activities that you are not proficient at. Especially if a public venue is the only place your can develop the skills necessary, like swimming at a public pool, or in my case learning gymna...

Re: Toronto Yonge Street 10K or Sporting Life 10K
Well it's not an issue anyway- the girl from CRS said he'd have to start at the back, so obviously Pat sprinting through the crowd with the stroller to catch up with me is not safe in any way. Once the race gets going, it's actually not too crowded at the front, and I honestly don't think it would'...

Re: Toronto Young Street 10K or Sporting Life 10K
I agree with you Mark. There are always people running in the front corrals with strollers in the Vancouver Sun Run (where the rule also is that they are only allowed to start in the last wave with the walkers). At worst it can be dangerous to both the runners and the child, and at best very annoyi...
