Re: Moose Mtn trail marathon

Had a good time, got timed out at the last aid station and diverted to the 29k instead of the full marathon, but after going up and down the hill, I was fine with that. Won a nice draw prize from Impact magazine, tshirt, socks, toque, cold water laundry soap, sports drink, gels, running log. Thank y...

Re: The Official Haliburton Thread

I suggest those of you staying at the park have a meet-and-greet at 7:00 pm on friday at the cookhouse porch. Last year I spoke briefly to Mike about getting up in the morning, (we were sleeping in our cars), but never introduced ourselves and didn't realize we were online acquaintances. The back of...

Well the one I'm going to is in Bragg Creek, just west of Calgary. Don't know where that is, exactly, but I'll look it up on the map.

I just bought a pair of La Sportiva shoes and so far (1 run) I like them. Made a detour around a bull buffalo on the trail today, but doubt that would win me any contest.

I've paced 3 marathons and one 1/2 so far. I've dropped out of the Toronto Waterfront because I'm working here in Alberta.

I couldn't get in to JFK last year so I went to the Stone Cat 50 instead. Similar time frame and distance from home, and it was a fun race.

The deer flies have probably sucked all his juice and he's now just a withered shell. Poor Clif. But he did his job; there were no bear attacks.

It was a trail race, but not running as we usually think of it. Up and down four mountains. The first climb took two hours. 50k in nine hours, and I was a very tired puppy. I suffered a bit, well mostly actually, from stomach and kidneys not functioning from the exertion. Had one good hour, the fift...

This morning was just perfect for a while, running along the canal tow path in Perth, with warm sun on top and cool wet grass and leaves brushing my legs. I started hearing the birds, and at my turnaround, I stopped for five minutes, just listening to the birds and frogs, and while I stopped the bir...

its funny, isn't it, what turns into a 'hill' after 3 or 4 or 5 hours.

I did it a couple of years ago. Its inside and outside of a U-shape, not like an oval at all. Its a cool breezy place, quite nice. The two big advantages are that you run by your own aid station every lap, (they supply aid too), and you see all the other runners and the race unfolding and how they a...

Good report, Kiza. I'm impressed that you can keep up with seconds. I'm a little bit more casual than that. Sometimes I too am surprised that people I've run with don't stop to thank me, but that's made up for by the people I never even saw who were pacing themselves from me, and come up and thank m...

Yeah learn to eat is good. Smarties are good. Try some chicken noodle soup. You know, Mrs. Campbells. They serve it at a lot of races and it goes down real good. You can stash it along your route; after 20 miles, you don't care if its hot or not. I personally don't think going more than 5 hours is n...

I asked to have a 1/2M shirt instead of the marathon one, and they refused. I hate that green colour. I asked about 100 other men in the 1/2 M lineup to trade, and nobody would, so I guess not many other men like it either. And its so small, I can't give it to my wife for a sleep shirt either, like ...

Gosh from where I sit, 40 is not very old to be called the masters class. Some of the longer trail races will have another class for those of us over 60, not sure what its called, old fools or something.

That was my first ever race. And in fact it was my first ever long run, so to speak. I was entered in the 5k, and at the turnaround, I saw some fat people, (sorry but thats what I saw) going on to do the 10k, and I thought 'well if they can do it, so can I'. I had never gone 10k before, but I did it...
