Re: Are colour runs are a faux-charity scam ??
Honest question: Is it bad for you to inhale all that airborne powder? I read one article that said it was coloured corn starch. From a H&S standpoirnt....have you ever lit a match to a airborne flour? In an outdoor environment, would the concentration be high enough to be combustible? I was th...

Thank goodness there are bloggers out there to get indignant on behalf of the specified charities who say they are thrilled and looking forward to participating next year.

Man, that's really cool. I hope you stay in touch with him.
Congrats to him, but congrats to you too on an exactly perfectly paced bunny gig.

Re: How to Master the Pullup
Totally agree that pullups are among the best compound exercises out there, but not so sure about those tips. Tips #1 and #2 - isometric exercises - won't build pullup strength whatsoever. Isometric exercises only build strength at that very specific position/angle . They're not very effective, but ...

Re: Nutrition and depression
Frequent, achievable goal setting has dopamine-related effects. I try to make new recipes (or innovate a standby recipe in some way) basically everyday. Beyond the nutritional benefits of cooking healthy food, I find a tremendous satisfaction in bringing an idea (mine or someone else's) to reality. ...

I have no doubt she'll finish a marathon.
I've seen her "home movie" and she can most definitely handle things that are hard and long.

Between getting older and being set back by a very long injury hiatus, I don't think I'd ever be able to race for personal bests anymore so I don't see myself entering any races. (Exception for the Utica Boilermaker, because it's the Utica Boilermaker.) I'm running 5 or 6 days per week now just bec...

+1. A fun, quirky story about a recreational endeavour. It's jogging, it's not real life.

Re: Getting Better With Age - Ed Whitlock
The thing about Ed is that he's a front of the pack runner with a middle of the pack attitude. Running seems to be something that keeps him busy and happy but he's almost embarrassed by some of the attention it brings him. Accomplishments aside, it's that mindset that inspires me, especially when c...

At that age, having the ability and desire to come back from injuries and get to where he was 4 or 5 years ago... astonishing. I wish I could do that, and I'm much less than half his age. He's very inspiring.

Ideal running conditions in Ottawa today. Sunny, cool, no humidity. Just gorgeous. A nice 7km on the Gatineau side of the river, with 6x50m of walking lunges once I crossed back to the ON side.

Cool idea. At that price I'll bet it would more than pay for itself many times over. I'm always buying stuff to use for one meal and the rest goes bad.

Re: Bike stolen at the "The Canadian" in Ottawa
Thankfully this was just a bike - are the unsanctioned events insured if you get injured or worse? In my experience, you can't get an event permit for either private or public spaces without $5 million liability insurance. I never read my insurance policies close enough to see if it covered loss of...

Seriously - I don't disagree with your list, I wouldn't have put Hakeem so high, I would have found a spot for Abdul-Jabbar. I also wonder how to rank a guy like Mikan. I have an irrational disrespect for Kareem. I started watching the NBA in the mid-to late-80s when he was a starter on a marquee t...

Re: Mo vs. Bolt
As you say, there's no definitive way to resolve this, but insofar as there is a general "consensus" for all-time basketball rankings, Wilt tends to be in the 5-10 range (behind Jordan, Russell, Magic, and Bird for sure, along with perhaps Kobe, Duncan, Kareem, Robertson, Shaq, and West)....

Re: Mo vs. Bolt
Wilt dominated Bill Russell season by season and head-to-head. The Celtics dominated the era, but I didn't think the question was who was on the best TEAM. Meanwhile, I'm confused as to whether you're arguing that Wilt was the best basketball player ever or just the best athlete who ever played bas...
