Re: Bread Machines

I love mine so much!! It literally takes 5 min or less to put all the stuff in, and you press two buttons, and that's it. I tried so many times to make bread on my own and it always failed. The bread machine has saved us tons of money and the bread is delicious! You need to follow the recipe to the ...

Virtual Workout--THURSDAYS....

Ok, it went well this morning. I am not sure what my "current" 5k pace is right now. I know I'm faster than the 22:26 I ran in September, but I'm not sure past that. I am thinking now I might have been a bit too conservative in my pacing, but it definitely felt like a hard workout and that...

Re: Virtual Workout--THURSDAYS....

I wouldn't say I object, exactly, I'll do whatever everyone else wants, but at times I can't do that week's workout due to time constraints and I've appreciated hearing other ideas. I can certainly just figure out an alternate on my own, but just as another perspective I really enjoy reading the dis...

Re: Virtual Workout--THURSDAYS....

Yeah, Rob, that pace makes sense. It sounds scary, but it makes sense. My one minute recoveries last week were definitely a very slow jog, like 6:00 or a bit faster/km. I needed it, lol, and I'm bad about walking my recoveries normally instead of running, so for me it was an achievement that I ran! ...

Re: Virtual Workout--THURSDAYS....

Yikes... How about this one? http://running.competitor.com/2015/02/training/workout-of-the-week-deeks-quarters_12386" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; 8x400m. The 400s are run at just faster than 5k pace, with a 200m float for recovery. This sounds tough but like a really good workout. ...

Virtual Workout--THURSDAYS....

Great run this morning. 5 miles with the first mile as a warmup, and then I upped the pace every .5 to 1 mile or so in the last 4 miles. I started at 7.7mph, which I think is about 4:45 pace, and ran the last mile at 8.3 mph, or 4:25/km pace. It was tough by the end! I have met a new running buddy a...

Virtual Workout--THURSDAYS....

Great job Cheryl! Personally I find speed work mentally tougher on the TM. I am also anxious to get back outside! Tomorrow I am going to do a progression run, but just a straight up profession, not anything fancy. I'm thinking 1 mile warmup, then 4 miles starting at hopeful half marathon pace and in...

Re: Virtual Workout--THURSDAYS....

Btw, in case you haven't seen this, it's a useful pace chart. It was great this morning for me to quickly determine what my mile pace on the TM should be based on a few different 5k paces. Sorry, I have no idea how to embed the link with my iPad and I'm not feeling patient enough to try. :) http://a...

Re: Virtual Workout--THURSDAYS....

My run this morning went really well. I did the 2:00 parts at 6:53 per mile (21:30ish 5k pace) for the first 7. Then in the last 3, I upped the pace to 6:48 (21:15 pace) for the last minute and for the whole last one. I felt pretty strong, and I could probably have done more of the faster pace in th...

Re: Virtual Workout--THURSDAYS....

Ok thanks, good to know. I know I'm faster/fitter than I was in my 5k from September, so I'll guesstimate what pace I'd reasonably run now and then try to do the last 5 progressively faster.

Re: Virtual Workout--THURSDAYS....

So what pace would be appropriate for the 2 min part? With only 1 min between I'd guess... 5k pace? Or faster? This one could work, thanks. I'm not sure I'm mentally tough enough to do a 5k time trial on the TM! I'm good with steady runs or hard runs where I change the pace often, but the idea of go...

Re: Virtual Workout--THURSDAYS....

Yeah, I did 5 800s a couple weeks ago, and it took about 40 minutes with warm-up and rest in between. Six would be a real stretch. I'm looking forward to doing this at some point, though.

Re: Virtual Workout--THURSDAYS....

I really like the sound of this work out, but I think it's one that I'll need to save for March break. I don't think that I can fit it into 40 minutes without really, really cutting it short. I need to find something for tomorrow and for Friday, so I'll look today, and I'll check this thread as well...

Re: Virtual Workout--THURSDAYS....

Yeah I took my 10k pb pace (6:51) and used that as the starting point- 2 min slower than that at the beginning, and about that pace at the end. I am not at that level of fitness now to run that 10k pace in a race (maybe by spring?), so I'd just say pick a challenging enough pace as your starting poi...

Re: Virtual Workout--THURSDAYS....

I did the switchblade on tues and it went well. I did a mile warmup and 2x2 miles because that's all I had time for, and because I shortened it from Fleshman's version (3x2miles) I tried to be a bit more aggressive with the pace, targeting 15k pace (4:30-4:35, or 7:20 miles) as the mid point instead...

Re: Virtual Workout--THURSDAYS....

I did last week's workout this morning, and it was great! My miles were at 7.8 mph, and my minutes were at 8.7. I was aiming for 4:45 per km and 4:16 per km pace, but because of the way the treadmill does the increments in speed, it was probably closer to 4:50 and 4:20. It felt tough, but in a good ...

Re: Suddenly Saturday

I only had time for 5K today, and I was thrilled to look at my watch at the end and see 24:17... and it felt very, very comfortable! Woohoo! It was a fun and jam packed day with a rehearsal and the HOLIDAY TRAIN in there along with the normal Saturday chores.

There are a ton if you're willing to travel... probably a more fun race experience than Ontario in March-April, too.

Re: Sunless Saturday

Pat and I did 18K with the stroller today as we waited for snow tires to be put on the car. How's that for multitasking, haha!! There was quite a strong wind in Whitby out of the south and west, but as long as we zigzagged it wasn't too bad. Well, till the end when we had to run south to get back to...

I've said it before but I'll say it again- I'm so so proud of you!! You worked your butt off and raced really smartly. I'm also not surprised and now that this chunk has come off I bet you'll get several more pb's.

Re: Mississauga vs Toronto Marathon (May)

I'm thinking about the TO half in the spring. It's a great course and I don't want to have to travel to Mississauga twice (kit pickup and race).

Re: Live feed for today's Scotia Toronto Waterfront Marathon

Quickchick has a nice PPPB in the half :) Thanks! Yes, I was very pleased. I had no idea how I'd do, as I'm definitely not running a lot of volume (though I'm running 5 or 6 days/week), and I haven't raced a half since 2011 (I did Waterfront in 2012 but didn't run it hard). I just went out at what ...

He got his shots today, which is why I'm at home on RM instead of at work. :) He's the BEST. He's taking a f...
