Re: Boston Marathon 2013
Unbelievable! The official time was 4:09 which would be a crowded time on the course (although it's just alway crowded, isn't it). The video I saw from CNN shows that spectators, not runners, were in the thick of the blast. This is the most bizarre terrorist attack - what is the target? What would ...

Cell phone service is down (or at least partially), so if he's not somewhere where he can access the 'Net, we won't hear from him for a bit. Let's just remember that and hope for the best.

Yep, at JFK library.

That said, at the exact same time, someone else was tweeting air space is closed.

Quite the win on the wheelchair side!
As the announcer asked, "How is it possible that one man can be so much more powerful...?", the cynic in me thought, "Didn't they ask that about Lance?"

Re: How to be a pacer
I volunteered myself to be a pacer this September for a 100 miler. I'm allowed to join at either the 44 mile mark or the 50 mile mark (depending upon how fast the runner is). This would be my first time pacing. Any hints/tips/suggestions? I've never done it, but have gotten stories from numerous pe...

Re: Perfect pacing?
That's kind of how I am feeling about my upcoming 10K. It's a down hill course (and it's my PB course from a few years ago). Based on my training, there's no reason why I shouldn't be able to shave a minute off my time, but the paces "scare" me! I guess I just have to not think about what...

Re: Phone apps vs. GPS watches
Today, we ran on a trail that can be easily mapped, so I got to compare RunKeepr, Garmin, and gmap-pedometer, when I got home. Runkeeper said 17.3km, with 822m of climb G-map said 17.6km. Elevation isn't totaled, but the elevation profile is very similar to Runkeeper, with the highest point being 1m...

I think there's a time for both approaches, and this is a key: "...after all, the art of racing is to go as fast you can without blowing up ." To reach that "as fast as you can" (whether you blow up or not), you have to find out what it feels like, to push past that comfort level...

Interesting. My Garmin has been pretty wacky on and off over the past few months (either way off course or just not finding me at all). On Sunday, I had forgotten it at home so my friend used his iPhone and RunKeeper. We did about 13.5km and It was pretty darned accurate on our route, as far as we c...
