going to the airport today to try and get to the coast... that should be workout enough for me today. Flight is supposedly "on time" so far (with a few hours to go), so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Stay warm & enjoy the white stuff!

we have one in the basement, and I really like it for when it's too dark/too late/too cold or whatever to run outside. Make sure the foot pads aren't too far apart - most of them are adjustable, and depending on how long or short your legs are, you may need to adjust. It's a very different stride fr...

I've seen a shoe/boot version of the handwarmers - the ones where you crack them and they stay warm for several hours. I used them skiing once - they're shaped like an insole and stick into your shoe. If you are doing a long run, they would keep your feet and toes warm for quite a while.

"muscle imbalance" gets thrown around a lot, and likely means different things to different people. The most helpful interpretation that I've heard was from the Running Injury Prevention Clinic in Calgary at the U of C - although I'm far from speedy, DH and I went there when we started getting serio...

Sorry - I didn't happen to look at the thread until last night :( For future reference, the other good thing to know is that, if you're like me and have a solid brick of brown sugar at home, sticking one of the apple slices in it for a few hours will make it soften up. You don't even need to have GO...

Congrats! Whatever people might say about the RR, they have certainly made running a way of life for a lot of people, and encouraging people to run is never a bad thing. I started running through the RR, and I think it's fantastic that you're taking on the marathon class! You not only get to enjoy y...

That sounds great - I love butter chicken, but have never found a good way to make it at home. I usually make my butter chicken by calling for takeout or pouring sauce out of a jar onto chicken  . If you're lazy like me, the best prepared butter chicken sauce out there that I've found is the P...

Oh, and this quote from the article: Now I'm back at Weight Watchers trying to lose the last eight pounds so I can weigh in the 120s again, a goal that Dr. Sharma was none too kind about: “You don't have a weight problem,” he suggested. “You have a body-image problem. ” Hear, hear! I second that. T...

I did 5k outside yesterday in the -30, -40 with windchill weather. Not keen for a repeat this soon, so after work I'm going to the mall to finish my christmas shopping. That's exercise enough for me today.

I did the Catch the Elves run in Calgary today. It was -27; -42 by the river with the windchill  . It was originally a 10k, but they changed it to a 5k so the race marshalls and volunteers wouldn't be standing around outside for too long. Amazingly, it wasn't too bad to run in. I had long und...

I have the same problem & I've tried a bunch of different shirts/jackets with no luck - not the Mizuno, though. I think it's a combination of cold skin and any kind of clothing rubbing on it. It's slightly better if I use a really thick lotion or even body glide before I get dressed, then pile o...

2008 was a pretty good year for me, so my 2009 goals are... 1. realistic expectations - when work is crazy & I'm working 60-80 hours in a week, I'm not going to beat myself up over skipping a few runs. 2. consistency - after said crazy week, I need to get back on the wagon immediately, or one we...

That's terrible news. Let the amount of pain you're in guide you. If taking a breath in hurts, then anything aerobic that increases your speed or depth of breathing may hurt, including swimming. "Toughing out" pain is one thing - damaging the ligaments or muscles between the ribs, or worsening the f...

We've been throught this too - my 14 month old has been picky since the day he started eating food! My DH and I realized that battles over food only wear us out, and they aren't worth it. Running outside is way more fun than running inside... it just takes longer to get out there. My favourite winter gear is a pair of sunglasses from MEC that have interchangable lenses - I got clear lenses, and they're fantastic if it's dark, snowy or raining. I hate cold eyeballs. Otherwise, wear ma...
