National Capital Marathon (Ottawa)
I've run this event twice...2002 and 2005 (as well as the 1/2 marathon in 2004). I've always found this event to be smoothly organized and a lot of fun. Although the marathon field is only mid-sized, there are 6 other races this weekend (including inline skate races), so there is generally a nice hy...

Chicago Marathon
I ran this one in 2003...can't wait to do it again! The Chicago Marathon is one of the 'megamarathons', with registration over 35,000. Despite the huge size, I found the whole organization - from the expo to the finish area - was extremely well organized and smooth. The volunteers were very friendly...

The most commonly spoken rule for raceday is: Don't try anything new. No new breakfast. No new shoes. No new clothes. No new sports drink. Everything should have been tested and/or broken in prior to the day of your event, so that you don't have to deal with any surprises while you're trying to race...

At both of the 10km races I've done this month there have been timing chips, but no 'chip time'. There were no timing mats at the start line to record each runner's start, only mats at the finish to record each person's finish. So all that was measured was the elapsed time from the sound of the star...

This one tkaes the waypoints from peoples' GPS units and plots their runs on maps (North America only). You can street maps, topographic maps, and satellite images. The section I've referred to most often has been the trailnetwork, where you can see other peoples' runs mapped out. I've done this whe...

Any of them Orange Brian? I want to get a cool max visor, I saw some at Sport Check that matched my marathon outfit, you know the one, the mini shorts and singlet...But it looks like it has too much cotton on it. Now this is why you need a moderator banning people. Are you dudes really discussing c...

Major rest day today. I conked out on my LSD Saturday, and have been doing the chump move of trying to "make up for it" the past three days. I'm not injured, but my legs are definitely screaming for an off-day. Hey Bman, cool to hear that Mrs. Bman has taken up the sport. Do you think she'll get int...

I know most of you probably know this one, but for those who don't, it's an excellent resource. Among other things, there is an extensive race calendar with not only dates and weblinks, but user-submitted reviews of the race itself. This way you get info on a course's elevation, aid stations, crowd ...

Looks good so far Holly. Good luck, it's great to have choices! A couple suggestions: - I really liked the race report section at "that other place", but always wanted another section where people gave accounts of the event itself, separate from their personal performance. That way someone 'shopping...
