2009 Fredericton Marathon Race Weekend

Postby HCcD » Thu Mar 19, 2009 8:45 am

So, who's going to the 2009 Fredericton Marathon Race Weekend this year ?? :shifty:

An Extraordinary Experience!
The Fredericton Marathon has a race for everyone.

The Fredericton Marathon (42.2km - 26.2 miles) attracts runners from across North America to Fredericton to enjoy the flat and fast course on the trails along the majestic Saint John and Nashwaak Rivers.

Participants in the other races, 5K Fun Run, 10K or Half-Marathon, also have the opportunity to participate in one of the largest and most exciting running events in Atlantic Canada. They enjoy the same organization, support and excitement as the marathon.

Each of these events is unique and many runners return year after year to participate in one or another of these top-rated races.

The Fredericton Marathon is certified and a Boston Marathon qualifier.

We pride ourselves on giving you an extraordinary experience. We are dedicated to providing you the chance to make great friends and the opportunity to conquer one of the greatest challenges of your lifetime.

Wonder if we could entice Hula Girl to come to Freddy, CAW ?? Wouldn't it be great if she could do a cross country tour ? Vancouver on the 3rd and Fredericton on the 10th ??   :pray::pray:

Do you have a death wish? I think Hula girl would be in grumpy sorts with all that travelling.

Besides...she's already done one maritime event...she was on the inaugural CTRR team. I'm not saying she doesn't want to come back...but she needs to work the whole country first...then she'll be back...maybe for the hills of the Blue Nose in Halifax one day.

I SO wanted to run F'ton this year...my Dad lives there and he's not getting any younger, but my DD's dance recital is that weekend...why oh why do they always schedule that run on mother's day???

F'ton is a gorgeous place to run if you haven't been there before...well worth the trip.
Lifetime race count: 6 Halfs, 6 Fulls, part of a Death Race, some 10Ks thrown in there too
Marathon #5 dedicated to my sister and all cancer survivors...please see this link for my dedication: http://www3.telus.net/ccandhh

I'd like to be a glowworm, a glowworm's never glum; 'cause how can you be grumpy when the sun shines out your bum?

Uh, it's all your fault - I really wasn't going to go, but you made me think about it...I just looked at the flight schedule...if I fly out of F'ton early Monday morning, I can get back to Alberta by noon on Monday, which means plenty of time to get home for my daughter's dance recital on Monday evening...so I signed up for the half...now, for the plane ticket.

Yay, is right ... :P :P

So, ever since I registered last week, part of me has been toying with the idea of running the Full Marathon instead of the Half in Freddy ... :shifty:

Definitely, not in marathon condition, with the type of training that I have been doing to this point, but may reconsier after what happens this weekend at ATB ....:think:

I'm definitely not in marathon shape this spring...I'm registered for 3 Halfs in May (uh oh, what WAS I thinking?)...so am just working with that distance this spring...Either way, it will be great to finally meet you & CdnArtyWife...haven't spent much time on this site lately - anyone else gonna be in F'ton?

We're planning on being there too. I'm thinking HM or 10k and David is doing the full.

HM is flat. Most of it is on the old rail trail. if memory serves there are one or two very itty bitty hills but you'll be hard pressed to find a flatter course (especially in the Maritimes).

Andy - it is too early to do a weather forecast. But I'll tell you this...it's going to rain. ;)

Oh wait - I just remembered. The course I did last year was not the usual course because the usual course was flooded out. So...I don't know afterall. But it is supposed to be flat...and it is on the trail...anyway.

Last year the course got a little congested when the faster full and HM runners turned around and the slower runners hadn't yet and the faster 5 and 10 kers were catching up (5 and 10 starts half an hour late). It was crowded on the narrow course.

Andy, what we call trails here...are not what are known as trails elsewhere.

Our "trails" are old railroad beds. Gravel, well groomed, crusher dust in some places...mostly flat (since trains don't do hills particularly well.)

Your Elixers should be fine.

It is a mix of "rail to trail" and paved pathway along the river.

Think: running along the canals in Ottawa/Quebec.

I still need to work that out. My friend and her family are also coming so we may end up spending the evening with them.I also have family in Freddy that may be expecting to get together, but I certainly want to try to meet up with everyone at some point! Can't miss out on meeting the incredible Andy, and of course seeing Kara (who despite being the closest Maniac I still never get to see her!)
