Funny you should post this....I was searching him last night as he seems to have disappeared from the world stage. Good to see he's still hammering away.

I see his name fairly regularly in nearby ultras... he also spoke at red deer marathon last year, which I unfortunately missed.

Heh. I like

He is among the slowest and most deliberate eaters I know, and there is something about his determination at the table that is reminiscent of his determination on the road: he just doesn’t stop.

And I'd like to know more on this:
“It’s really a mental barrier,” he said, and he obviously has experience overcoming those. “I need five to eight thousand calories a day, and I get that all from plant sources. It’s not hard, either. I like to eat, and I don’t have to worry about weight management. All I need is a high-carbohydrate diet with enough protein and fat.”

We have a few samples of what he's eating, but it'd be interesting to read more detail.

Of course, the article just reinforces why I'm not a vegan... I'm too darned lazy! I rely on dairy and eggs a fair bit for protein and fat. Though I've been trying to slowly move from that.

Apparently he's writing a book, and according to the article in Runner's World, it will include more on his diet. I'm looking forward to it.

I am in awe of vegans. I have tried many times, and the one thing that I just couldn't give up was milk in my chai tea  I tried so many times. I can *almost* stomach vanilla soy in coffee, but when it comes to my chai, there is no settling. What a silly reason lol.

Also, how on earth does that man eat 5000-8000 calories? I remember trying to keep up with 3000cal diet for high distances and I just couldn't eat enough (even with PB). I started getting skinny. Had to resort to meat (and lots of lasagna) or my poor jaw would have been worn out. Maybe I should read more of his stuff to learn some lessons!

Get Real: Whole Foods for Runners

- 1 capsule each Udo’s Choice Super Bifido Plus & Adult’s Probiotic
- 1 capsule Udo’s Choice Unrefined Algae DHA
- 1 tablet mixed carotonoids, 400 IU vitamin E, 200 mcg selenium, vitamin B12

- 60 g Clif Shot Electrolyte Drink with 20 oz water
- 50 g Green Foods Vegan Protein Powder in 6-8 oz of water

- 1 serving Floradix Iron & Herbs Liquid Extract Formula
- 1 serving Floradix Calcium Magnesium with Zinc & Vitamin D

- 3 servings of Green Magma in 6 oz of water

I'm sorry, but none of those sound very "whole" to me. When did food become such a science? I will stick with eating my veggies from the farmer's market and my meat and fish that my dad hunts and fishes for me. And his home smoked kippers, and his home salted fish... yum. Nan's homemade pickles, jams and relishes. Nothing beats it. I guess this is probably the real reason I won't go vegan... I dislike all the strange things that go around masquerading as "foods"... :? Now, if I could do it without eating all the science-y stuff... then maybe...

Soylent Green — a small green wafer which is advertised as being produced from "high-energy plankton".

We've got to stop them somehow.

One fine day

One fine day

So all you sinners come out
And all you drunkards crawl out
Come into the light of one fine day

Not doing too badly in the race. About 210K done in 18.5 hours. Another 50K to go in 5.5 hours for that US record of 162 miles. Mind you, he is in second place to a Japanese runner with another Japanese runner right on his heels.

Nice to see the can measured it to the closest metre! ;)

He did meet his goal of breaking the American record with his 2nd place win. Impressive for both of them.

Some other impressive results, too.

There's just something so wrong about seeing Scott Jurek with a Nike swoosh on his shirt and wearing the singlet of the US sports 'machine'. :(
