Slushy Sunday

Postby JacSprat » Sun Feb 06, 2011 7:01 am

Back from a week of skiing and had a nice 6km run yesterday but today my body's tired and the weather is yucky with rain and snow and wind, so I'm taking a rest day. Will do some upper body work later.

Have a great day everyone!

I'm bringing my COBS bag back for a refill. That Chia bread was fantastic, and my girls loved the cinnamon buns. :)

Looking for 14K this morning, then coffee!

Slept 12 hours last night and missed run club. I planned on missing run club, though, since the forecast had called for 15cm of snow overnight, then rain. That didn't actually happen, as far as I can tell. Anyway, 7k done.

Great weather for once! Gosh, it is so NICE not to have to dress in a bazillion layers for -40C and not to have to worry about my water freezing. And, not to have to 'defrost' my gel in the middle of my run before I can use it!

Had a great run, even though I ended up running by myself....though, it did end up letting me try running with no walk breaks.

LSD on rolling terrain, 22km in 2:19:35, avg pace 6:20, avg HR 158bpm (First 9km with 10&1's @ 6:34/km, next 12km steady @ 6:13/km, last km @ 5:40/km)

14.x km with La this morning in the slush. Ridiculously bad footing forced us onto the roads, where the drivers were mostly polite. Forgot I was in Toronto for a while there. There were still a few that gave us the stink-eye, but I attempted to kill them all with kindness. I have a lot of little muscle aches that are going to need to be stretched out. Longest run this year, and with great company. :)

Beth did not feel well this morning, so had to either run alone this morning and/or head to the local RR to run with someone ... The marathon group was only going 13K and the next longest group was going about 22K (as, they had already run 9-10K before the Club Run), who was just happening to be training for Boston ... So, that was the group I ended up running with .... We ended up running out-and-back down Corkstown Road on rolling hills and around Kanata Lakes ... Great run, though, as it turned out they were following the FIRST Marathon Program, so, apparently, they tend to run their LSD faster than other programs tend to ... :shifty:

So, ended up with 22.25K / 2:05:xx steady mid-long run .. Actually felt pretty good throughout, despite having ran 31K yesterday ....

Just resting up this afternoon the heading off to celebrate Chinese New Year with the family for supper this evening ..

Sick sick sick!! I do not post that often. So hopefully the hay is in the barn for New Orleans next weekend or should I still try and get 16 in mid week when I feel better?

Rest IMO. Let your body recover and do your taper - a 16k a few days before your race isn't worth it IMO. You're ready!

Had a great 14.7k delicious run yesterday with some mocha friends - was awesome. Today - a spin session in the basement o' pain this afternoon - then superbowl!

oh and about 10 loads of laundry - ugh!

Ha Ha Ha - I fooled the weather

I was supposed to run 19K today - but I checked the weather yesterday, heard that 20 cm of fresh snow was on the way and decided to run my 19K on saturday instead - it was sunny day, mostly dry sidewalks ....he he he

so...today is 8K (monday's run) - with a few sets of 100m runs thrown in

I am in the middle of a running "streak" - I have been running the last 6 days and am planning to run also the next 7 days ...I am just following the coach's plan and trust that he knows what he is doing...

I bought a sugoi one a couple of weeks ago, and now it barely rains when I'm out for a run. ;) (very effective jacket!)

This is the one I got:
http://www.sugoi.com/usa/eng/Products/B ... ite-Jacket

Men's version here:
http://www.sugoi.com/usa/eng/Products/B ... ite-Jacket

It's great, dry and warm (the only ventilation is under the armpits so it holds the heat in like goretex, and keeps the rain out). the only hitch is that it has no pockets. :(

Same distance, same rain. :) But the temp was nice and I was fine with just a long-sleeved shirt.

Is there any way not to get wet in today's rainy weather? Anything more waterproof will be too warm and just make me sweat* more. I just figure I'll get wet no matter what and hardly ever actually wear a jacket unless it's too cold to rain.

My run- a great 16k progression tempo with 8k at 5:06/km. I needed this good run! 8)

*Eta: had to change autocorrected "swear" to "sweat", but swear works too. ;)

2 hours/16k done, some on snow in the park, some on the nicely cleared Martin Goodman Trail. That's 60k for the week. 8)

Easy 40 minute run/shuffle with Clinic participants. Blech and drizzly - I would echo Jennifer, I have a couple of waterproof jackets but I always end up soggy from the inside unless it is really cold out, in this weather - long sleeve shirt with vest works as good as anything.

Group run this morning was only four locals because the Edmonton speedsters wussed out. Someone had the bright idea to head out of town on gravel roads and this ended up leading to a very treacherous couple of hours on hard, slippery ice. One of the group is now two months out from the Marathon des Sables (6 days across the Moroccan desert), so today's conditions (cold and slippery) must have felt like ideal preparation... 37K done, giving me my biggest weekend since the marathon double.
