Ottawa 9 Run Run

Postby fe.RMT » Tue Aug 16, 2011 1:02 pm

Did anyone run this last year? I tried to do a search, but the search function 'ignores' the word run because it is too common and the number 9 isn't long enough or a word so it ignores that too.

Just wondering what the course is like. Looks like the field size was decent last year, about 500 people.

It's on my birthday this year so I thought it might be a fun trip to make to Ottawa.
The rumours are true......

A whole pile of us were there! Totally worth the trip!!

I walked the 3k with Zack last year...it was his first race :D I'll likely do the 3k again with him this year or I'll do the half as a LSD (it's just a few weeks before my marathon). Actually, I should check their policy on strollers in the half

And it's a Zoomphoto event. What more reason could you need???

Ran it last year as a nice slow run...ended up pacing a random stranger to her PB.
Very nice event...very cool medal. And I liked the shirt too.
Post race BBQ with burgers and chilli for the racers.
Last year there was a rock band...OPP cops who have obviously a secret life as "rockers"

hilly? flat? bit of both? The pictures from last year make it look like the course is quite scenic. Burgers are always good......

a tiara might be necessary.

Slight uphill on the Trans Canada... Here's what Garmin gave as the elevation details:

I wanted to do this race last year but driving to Stitsville for the race kit in traffic the day before then driving back the next day for the race I backed out. This year if you live in Ottawa you have to drive to Kanata for the race kit (same thing) Does anyone know if I can pick up my race kit on race day? If so then count me in. Thanks

This year the Kanata Bushtakuh location will be the race kit pick up for the event ...

If I recall, last year, they did have race kit pickup on race day inside the high school, although it was not indicated on the website ...

Or, if you ask a fellow Maniac, I'm sure one could pickup your kit for you and meet up with you early on race day morning ... :shifty:

And, if the weather conditions is as good as last year, or better, the race conditions were perfect for a fast and flat course ... Definitely, a PB quality course, imo ... :shifty:

Definitely no big hills. I enjoyed it, especially the parts along the Trans-Canada Trail.

You should definitely come :D I can offer you a place to stay and a birthday cake. (Although my disclaimer is that there is a somewhat small chance I could have a newborn/be in labour at that point).

Last year I e-mailed the RD and explained I was coming from out of town. I had no problem picking up my race kit on the day of the race.

Last year's thread:

I did a long run backwards along the course on the converted train tracks to cheer the runners along. Nice footing.
