That was a good article. It shows how anyone can get consumed by their "recreational" sport. I have seen that countless times (the consuming, not the doping). There is some poetic justice that his crash has stopped him from cycling, and the doping. He crashed in more ways than one, and it is good to see that he realizes his mistakes.
It is a sad story.
