Slushy Thursday

Postby erinmcd » Thu Feb 28, 2013 8:19 am

Nasty roads here this morning- about 6-8 inches of very wet snow fell yesterday & overnight, and the roads are now covered in a thick layer of slush.

14.5K this morning- warm up, 11K tempo, cool down. Stopped trying to avoid the slush puddles about halfway through as it was a futile effort to keep my feet even remotely dry. A good character building run! :D
Keep on rolling, just a mile to go. Keep on rolling my old buddy, you're moving much too slow.

Morning!

Last night was 7K with the clinic including 6X 250m hills. The hill was fine, but the route to get to it was awful! Slush, muck ... eeewwww. Plus I got sprayed by a bus... I mean head to toe. I only had one of my clinic members show up, but the 10K clinic was doing the hill too, so we joined them. Having said all that, I actually didn't mind the run too much! I generally like doing hills (I know... I'm strange)

So I topped that off with a tempo run this morning (last regular tempo before ATB - I will shorten them over the next couple fo weeks)

13K with 8K @ 7.5mph. I actually did about a mile at 7.6mph. Felt good, but my legs are dead now!
It's not the size of the dog in the fight...it's the size of the fight in the dog! 11K Marker post - 2010 ATB.

Does snow shovelling (again) count as an aerobic activity ?

Good morning! Haven't checked in for a couple of days. Busy times at work. So let's see... Tuesday was an unplanned rest day - was tired and not feeling great, so got a little extra sleep. I was going to run on the TM at the gym after work, but - surprise! - worked late, so that didn't happen. Yesterday morning was a huge cross-training snow shovelling workout. We woke to find several inches of rain soaked snow, i.e.: very dense slush, with a thin layer of wet snow on top. And a rain/snow mix falling from the sky. I know snow shovelling burns some calories, but normally I don't "count" them. But yesterday morning has to have been different! That stuff was so heavy, even just to push, never mind lift. I can feel it today all through my arms and upper body. Anyway... I was working late again last night, but managed to finish something up, and ran 15 km on the indoor track at the gym. Happy to have that done.

This morning was more snow shovelling. Not the slush fest from yesterday but still heavy and wet. I'll do some core work at home tonight.

Glad to see the end of February and I hope March doesn't bring more of the same! Have a good day, everyone :)

Not sure about aerobic, but the stuff we've been dealing with the last couple of days is definitely calorie burning!

Usually we shovel "inches" or "cm" of snow. Yesterday I was shovelling "gallons" of the stuff ;)

Amen to that.

Morning was 25mins shoveling warmup, then 40min easy run on the un-plowed streets (easier to run on than the slippery slush stuff, and pup doesn't get covered in salt slush).
Noon will be 30min Elliptical + core.
Evening will likely be more shoveling, cause it is still snowing.

Planning on heading to the track tonight for some interval training. Don't think we've been to this track so early in the year, hopefully it will be ok.

Easy 3 km outside. -11C/-16WC, few clouds, full moon. Group fitness class tonight. Thankful I didn't have to contend with heavy wet snow or slush like other folks in this thread. For those who had to shovel it or run thru it -- good on ya!

Had a great spin class this morning followed by some shovelling. Enjoyed the spin class way more than the shovelling.

Same thing for me, went from tip-toeing to just full on splashing straight through the slush...

No more canal run for this year. Instead, 10km run on a puddle-filled running path. Soaked to the bone but at least it is done.
