Unfortunately did not recover enough from my back injury earlier this week to race today in the Saskatchewan Marathon. 3 km walk with the dog to stand at the finish line and cheer on the racers. James Funk won the marathon in 2:49:26, Brian Michasiw was 2nd, 23 seconds behind him. My sister paced a very slow friend in her first half - sub 3!

Bunny duties were relatively successful! 4:29:06. So less than a minute ahead of pace :). Great day for racing in Ottawa. Race report will follow later :)

Ottawa Half for me this morning. My finishing time was way off what I was aiming for (it was actually considerably slower than last year), but I did the best that I could manage given the heat. It really kicked my butt out there today.

I was also sort of shocked that the first couple of stations were out of cups of fluid by the time I rolled through (the later stations were fine). Kudos to the volunteers for doing what they could with the pitchers of water they had on hand. I'd also like to thank the few people out there with hoses for spraying me down as I went by. If it wasn't for the water that I kept throwing on my head throughout the race, I think I may have had a DNF. Conditions like this just kill me.

On the bright side, I did learn some valuable lessons about pacing in the heat (i.e. don't be stupid and run the first 5K at your "best case scenario" goal pace, LOL) and for the most part, my legs felt pretty good throughout. It was simply the heat fatigue that got the best of me today. By the end of the race, I think it was solidly into the mid 20's.

I saw a number of people on the course requiring medical attention, so hopefully they are all okay.

Happy Sunday folks!

Winnipeg RCAF 17th Wing Half. I have never run this race without it raining and today was no exception. It was a lovely 18 degree day and drizzle which always tricks me into not drinking enough. I was on track for a faster than normal finish but got a very crampy left calf which slowed me down for the last 3 miles. Good run in any case. I don't know if the lack of drinking led to the cramps? I've never had this before.

Yeah, I was two corrals back from the start and the first 2 stations were all out of cups by the time we got there. People were actually clasping their hands to try and drink from them as the volunteers poured water into them  That didn't really work, so I got them to soak my hat instead, LOL.

Like I said, the rest of the stations had plenty of cups, so there must have been a mixup on those first couple from the planning side of things.

I had a pretty tough day today- 4:32 in my marathon. And it hurt a lot. But I'm still happy I did it in some weird way. :)

Congratulations to the rest of the racers today.

First race completed in my new 50-54 AG with a 3:20:39. I was hoping for a sub 3:20 but fell short. Overall happy with the PB. After running in solitude for most of the race, it was nice when we merged together with the half marathoners and 10K racers.

Congratulations again on a great race and on a shiny new PB. You've trained hard for this and you always run so well. Please write a report. :)
