I just walked down the block to see the leaders come through 28K. I came home to warm up (and pee) and will head back down to see them again at 37K.

6 second PB for Eric Gillis… Drayton's record will see a 40th year.

In other races today, Alex had a 3:25 in PEI for 3rd and one of RM's sporadic lurkers had a 2:38 in Amsterdam.

Looks like her calves gave out in the last half hour and she had to ease it in. As they were interviewing her, one of the guys I ran with in Halifax came through in the background. Meanwhile, a couple Canadian girls with big PBs around 2:36 to give us some depth.

2:11:21 for Eric Gillis. New PB, but still off Drayton's Canadian record.

ETA: ian beat me to it! ;)

Yep! I had bat girl with me the entire way. I brought them in at
4:53:54. Quite happy with that! And I had a lot of happy runners who took off for the last k. In the end it was juste and bat girl. :)

Darn! Official time is 4:53:51. I let bat girl pace me at the end! :( people were still happy though so its all good

My splits were 2:26:16 and 2:27:35. Pretty happy with that!
It was kind of my plan to have a slightly positive split

Thanks! Yes, I was very pleased. I had no idea how I'd do, as I'm definitely not running a lot of volume (though I'm running 5 or 6 days/week), and I haven't raced a half since 2011 (I did Waterfront in 2012 but didn't run it hard). I just went out at what felt like HM effort, and I figured I'd just see what happened, lol. 5K was 23:26, 10K was 47:48, 15K was 1:12 something (I think?) and I finished in 1:42;38. I at least slowed down gracefully! Ha! I felt awesome the whole way and ran with a huge smile on my face for almost the whole race. I was just so grateful to be running, grateful for my awesome son and Pat, grateful for the tall, tall people in front of me, for the people cheering... and lots more. The last km was kind of tough, but I never really suffered. I hope to go for a pb in the spring!

Thanks! I always think I run under the radar on my little island :). I had a super day. This course usually gets the better of me (like 4 times!!!). My goal today was to run the 1st half smart & controlled so I could fight the wind & hills in the 2nd half. My plan worked. I managed a (almost) 3 minute negative split (a first) & was able to power up the hills in the final 6k, passing lots of people (results say I passed 26 people in the 2nd half. I didn't count). In my mature marathoning years, I'm learning that there's a lot of satisfaction in finishing a marathon feeling strong. It's totally worth holding back a bit in the early miles :). I'm thrilled to have finally conquered this course - next time I run it, I'm taking a cue from Lisa. I'll be wearing bunny ears!
We train more joyfully and productively when we focus on the now, rather than on our future race day performance. It's a long road from here to there with many miles to go. We need to run each one. Accept where you are today and simply be thankful for the work you've accomplished. KA
