Fun indeed. A hike up the BCMC trail again while we still had clear skies.

6.8K/4.2miles in 40 minutes on the TM at lunch. Threw some up-tempo stuff in for fun.

Someone was just asking where the snow line is currently. How was it?

It was really nice-- snow line about half-way up but it's all really well-packed. My Stabilicers Lite are great, even on the little downhill bit. I wouldn't do it alone, though-- we saw some people doing that and I wouldn't be comfortable with that. There were times when we couldn't see anyone ahead of us or behind us for a while.

We saw someone running down. That's pretty insane. We also saw many people with the newer yaktrax-looking things, but I don't remember what they are called. They claimed they are "amazing" but they cost about 3x as much as my simple Stablicers Lite. :)

eta: the new ones are these (Kahtoola Microspikes):

Microspikes aren't new. :)

They're supposed to be a lot more durable than the yaktrax.

Why wouldn't you do it alone? Still pretty busy even in winter, no?

(Says the girl who goes out in the middle of nowhere alone ;)

They are new to me. :)
I didn't do any winter hiking last year and not much the year before.

It wasn't busy at all. There were several places on the trail where we didn't see anyone for a while- we only saw 7 other people the whole time and that included a group of four people, two solo people, and one guy going down. There are places where I'm not all that confident about where the trail is going (although once we were on the packed snow it was easy to tell). I just wouldn't feel confident enough to go alone.

One woman we talked to on the tram had done it alone but she said she really doesn't like doing that- she was very experienced, too. She said she always made sure she had someone in her sight (but she was faster than us).

see that's a lot of people to me.

I'm happier when I see no one.

A lot of people is a constant stream of people where you can always see someone. :)

You wouldn't be happy if you saw no one and you got injured on the trail or blacked out.
