2013 Boston BQ -X Shallonge Thread

Postby HCcD » Mon Sep 26, 2011 2:47 pm

On the heels of the 2012 Boston Registration thread, it was suggested that it would be a good idea to start a 2013 Boston BQ -X Shallonge Thread ....

To make it more broader, we could just open it to a Marathon Shallonge Thread, similar to the 20/40/90 plus shallonge for 2011 ...

Thoughts? Suggestions ??

Intriguing...will think about this. Could be just the motivation I need...

We're going to try this new thing called jogging. Or maybe it's yogging-with a silent "j". Apparently you just run for an extended period of time. It's supposed to be wild.

Thinking both Habs and Andy will do this.

Susan, which spring marathon are you considering?

I thought she and Cheryl were coming to Ottawa .. :shifty:

Wonder if returning to Vancouver in early May will give me a 3-peat for a PB and my second BQ ??

I guess that question again ... which is a faster course ... Missy or GoodLife ???  :shifty:

Well, I'm partial to Good Life, and you could enjoy the amenities of Casa Purdy - meters from the start!

Been wondering that too- is Mississauga, Goodlife, or Ottawa the fastest course?

Ironically, Vancouver has been my fastest marathon course, twice over  .... :shifty:

And, believe that Ottawa be in the running, though, the weather factor may negate that advantage, over Missy or GoodLife that will be 4 weeks earlier, hower ... :?

My two experiences in Toronto, had a tough final 3-4K up towards Queens Park .... into a headwind ... but, that was when it was in the Fall, so may be a moot point now that it is in May .....

I enjoyed my Missy experience in 2010, though, running some of those stretches on the bike paths, etc., and weather played a roll, as well .. and, would one day like to tackle that beast again ...

Being able to train on the hometown course, may have it's advantages, however ....

I'm not sure how much it's worth to seek out a "fast course". Andy has done his best two times in Vancouver, but perhaps that has more to do with when it comes in the year for him. Two of my best half-marathons have been on what should be a slower course.

You also can't predict things like weather and other variables.

Ditto - my two best times, by far, out of 8 marathons.

2013 sounds good to me. I get an extra five minutes, I'll be gearing up for NYC 2012, I can make this work.

Absoutely ... how many people can say that their two fastest courses have been Vancouver and San Francisco, and ran it faster than Chicago ..... and, considering that I don't usually do much hill training ... :shifty:

Though, 4 of my best marathons, of my 24 marathons, have been in the West Coast, for some weird reason ...

NYC 2012 may be too late to qualify for Boston 2013, depending on how registration goes next year.

Which brings up an interesting question if they don't fill up in the first two weeks of registration next year- will it then be first-come-first-serve? They may find themselves in a big computer rush situation again right after a big marathon weekend in October or November.

Qualifying for 2013 is my plan as well. I need 3:10 plus whatever buffer I need to ensure I am able to register.

My first attempt at it will be in Philadelphia in November. If that does not work Ottawa in May would probably end up being my next attempt.
[b]2016 Races:[b]

January - Richmond Road Races 10 km 41:06
March - St Patrick's Day 10 km 41:31
April - Minto Run for Reach half-marathon 1:28:56
May - Sporting Life 10 km - 41:10
May - Ottawa Marathon - 3:26:37
September - Army Run

I put that badly - when I said "I can make that work" I was thinking about a fall training cycle that included NY but a qualifying attempt elsewhere within the 2013 window.

I kinda thought that's what you meant. I still wonder what they'll do if that happens, though. Very likely that it could.
