100km

Postby ultraslacker » Mon Jul 19, 2010 12:51 pm

So, I really want to do 100km in 2011.

There aren't many local ones--there is the new Fat Dog 100 that is running for the first time this weekend. I hear it's a really tough course.

There is the Elk Beaver in Victoria, but it is flat 10k loops.

I could go to Edmonton and do Blackfoot--that was where I did my first 50k and it is a great race, with 25k loops.

OR

I could save up some money and come out to Ontario and join in some ultra hoopla. :)

What would my 100km options be in ON?

lol no I've been thinking about 100km since February! :)

Will check out the site, but I'd still like to hear what maniacs recommend and also if any specific race will attract hoopla.

100k's are a hard distance to find races for.

Top of my list of 100km is

no 100km races listed on that site! I guess they are relatively rare. :(

I really have NO desire to do 100 miles! But my neighbour says that will change after I do the 50. Maybe I will have to come out and do HF 100!

Would love to check out the course that defeated the Great Gary Robbins, lol! But that's kinda scary too (ok, it wasn't the course itself that defeated him...).

You could do Dirty Girls and aim for 100K in 24 hours? Or do 120 and get a belt buckle :)

Alas, no 100k in ON.
But you could always do the Dirty Girls 24hr as a warm up for Haliburton Forest 100 miler.
If Neil puts on a 100k race at Limberlost, you gotta come. That is the prettiest course I've ever run!!
Failing that, look south. Lots more 100k races to choose from.

Oh no, tornado season is in the spring. BUT, I think a pic of you running an ultra with a tornado in the background and a rainbow fram would be awesome: where else but Kansas?

Go for it Slacker! My only 50 miler was Sulpher this year, I too was looking all over for 100k as 100m sounds a little daunting....I'm going to do Dirty Girls 24hr and use that to see how I shape up for eventually doing 100miler. I have no idea if I can run for 24hrs, but I'm gonna find out! I've got Sulpher 100m on my radar for next year, unless DG goes really well then I might just do something stupid like sign up for Haliburton 100 mile this year!

Sulpher Springs 50 mile
North Face Blue Mountain 50 mile
Creemore Verticle Challenge 75km
Wasatch Front 100 Mile
Tour du Massif 50km
Somethin' else...

I am thinking of planning my holidays around Dirty Girls, Limberlost, and Haliburton for next year, but I might have to pick only one like this year. Transportation & dog sitting becomes a big problem, especially for someone who doesn't drive.

same! well, I do drive but I have to rent/borrow cars! :)

But for the amount it's costing me to rent a car and drive down to WR, I could almost buy a plane ticket to ON... so maybe it would work!

What is your timeline for doing 100k Holly? The 12 hour race I put on in the fall could be a good one; the loops are fast, 85% smooth and have no hills bigger than you are tall.

Other than that, I loved Blackfoot, and the 100k at Kettle Morraine is a tough, but the event is super well put on.

I have no idea... not sure I could do it in 12 (I've yet to do a 50k in 6, though I've never done a flat 50k either!). Ask me this question after my mountainous 50-miler next week! lol I'll keep your race in mind.

eta: how long are the loops?

I really would love to go do Blackfoot again, so I'm keeping it in the short list.
