Voyageur 50

Postby daddy_runner » Wed Feb 02, 2011 10:57 pm

Might be doing this race again this year.

But there might be a catch. A guy I know wants to run it again this year too, but the next day is a 10 mile race that he *has* to attend. So I tossed the idea at him that we can run the 50 miler one day, drive through the night to get to Gimli for the next morning, then run that race.

I looked like I had slid down a 50-mile burlap conveyor belt. Then some bikers came over and kicked the living tar out of me, and applied cheese graters to random parts of my body. Finally, I ill-advisedly self-administered some hand lotion to the affected areas (may as well have poured alcohol).

Felt great.

Many hand lotions have alcohol in them. Keeps you coming back for more.

But really, I usually feel crummy after 50 miles. I'd only be able to walk the next day.

Yeah, that's why I'm considering this well after my last 50 mile race. The pain of the last race is all but a memory.

of course the race will be easier the second time you run it.

Is this how you out me Dale? :-) It does sound appealing in a twisted way... It means that it will be harder to enjoy some of those brown bottle beverages at the end of 50 miles if it means jumping into the car and heading back. Is the border on 59 open all night? or would we have to drive back on 75?
I run distance because I want to be in good shape when I die.

This is why I'm not an ultramarathoner. That doesn't sound even remotely fun.

Actually, it's Murray who has the problem with Voyageur and Islendingadagurinn. :) I'm just trying to make sure everybody is willing to do something stupid & insane.

Sounds like a hoot. Go get it and have fun Dale!
