Pacing/Crewing Opportunity
As I start training and planning for my 1st 100 miler, I come to RM to canvas for pacers and/or crew.
I will be racing Sulphur Springs on May 25, 2013. The course is 20 km loops so I would be looking for pacers that can do the 20 km loop (or 40 km) during the night of Saturday, May 25, and through the early morning hours of Sunday, May 26.
I throw this out early because the Ottawa Marathon Weekend is the same weekend, as is the Cabot Trail Race Relay (these are 2 that I know of, and I am sure there are more). Therefore, as people start planning their 2013 race season, I want to make sure that I put this "out there".
Sulphur Springs offers a 10 km event as well as a 25 km, 50 km, 50 miler and 100 miler. So what I would offer is that for those that would like to pace crew, but would also like to race, I would pay the entry fee into the 10 km or 25 km event with the understanding that you would still be able to pace the 20 km or 40 km loop when it was your "shift".
So if you have paced/crewed before and enjoyed the experience, or have never paced/crewed, but are willing and able, I would love to hear from you. I will contact each person that shows interest by PM, and we can work out the logistics of registration if you wish to participate in an event, and availability for the "shift" and other details.
Thanking you in advance for your interest.

This almost (but not quite) works out for me, as I'll have two conferences in southern Quebec on either side of that weekend. Alas, it's a bit too far for a kamikaze excursion and I might take a stab at ORW instead. Good luck with your search.

Thanks for catching that Ian -- too bad it doesn't work out -- it would have been GREAT to meet you, and run some km's with you.....

Sent you a note on FB with my info
Was considering my first 50K at this event but think that crewing your first 100 miler would be way more fun!

As an update, I figure I will require pacing for approximately 80 km's, so ideally four pacers and maybe a fifth who would be willing to crew and step in as a pacer if needed....
I will pace:
Mark 2.1
Robin
Stephane B (not on RM)

Re: Pacing/Crewing Opportunity
Wow! Free entry, plus the bonus of running an extra 20K loop while chatting with a fellow RM'er! I'm sure that as people evolve their SS plans, you will easily fill the slots. Keep this thread current, especially closer to April 2013. I can't pace, as Curly is planning to run the 100M and I will be pacer and crew. If the planets align and I can stave off KA (knee apocalypse) I plan to enter the 50K. Crewing for two is as easy a crewing for one, so if you have a "crew gap", count me in (while I'm not pacing).
Ah! the 2013 racing season! Bring it!

Hey, Sylvie and Crew,
I'll be on my own and usually self supporting, but....I may need help with something. Can I put my chair by Sylvie's?

I presume that this is Sulphur Springs in Ancaster, Ontario. I will be p[leased to pace you during one of the overnight loops if you wish and if I can keep up! If I am not needed, I can also help crew for you and Laura!
Re: Pacing/Crewing Opportunity
Sounds fun, I am able to help in any way if you need.

Re: Pacing/Crewing Opportunity
Hi there,
I am bumping this as someone of my pacers has been called away for work...... looking for someone prepared to do a 20 km loop in the middle of the night -- sounds like fun, eh???
If you're interested, send me a PM and we can "chat" --
Thanks ahead

I am out of the country that weekend. Can you ask the organizers to move the race?

I am still on track to pace you. I will take any loop you need me for. Schedule anyone else for their preferences and I will fill in whenever.

I'm still in as well. Depending on our speed etc. I may be able to do do two loops (spaced apart). But that's one of those things I probably won't know ahead of time. But if you don't get anyone, then I'll try

You two are awesome -- really appreciate it!! Discussed it with my Coach, and she thinks I should be good until 11:00 pm. or so, and then with each of you doing one loop with me, I would be fine to bring it in on my own after that! It will be one big experiment!!
