I have a pain in my knee area - does not hurt running or walking. Hurts to press on it - found it when I was using the stick to roll out my shins and calves - same on both knees but less on the right knee.

Although it is hard to see where you are pointing, i am going to vote pes anserine
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pes_anserinus_%28leg%29
which is the common tendon for one hamstring (semi-tendinosus) and two adductors (gracilis and sartorius). Often tender on people even in the absence of pathology. I wouldn't worry about it if it isn't causing you any functional issues.
The rumours are true......

Can't see image - is it outside knee pain? I had something similar, turned out it was my hips... too tight so not rotating properly, forcing all the rotation through my knee.
