Vancouver: IMS practitioners

Postby ultraslacker » Fri Apr 12, 2013 3:50 pm

I'm not actually injured, but my hips keep tightening up and I talked to my RMT today about going back for IMS. I haven't had it since my injury 3 years ago but it worked wonders then. My previous practitioner has moved to Chilliwack so I need a new one. Any recommendations?

Someone who practices IMS! ;)

IMS = intramuscular stimulation. It is usually done by acupuncturists, but can be done by other care professionals like physio, etc.

Gotcha!
I think Spaff did this when he was working at a physio clinic for a brief time (or maybe it was a chiro clinic).
I hope you get sorted out ASAP!

It's also occurring to me that I should re-introduce yoga into my life... it's been awhile. :/

I got this done by a physio last year and he called it dry needling. Maybe you can look for that term in Google and see what comes up?

All hail IMS! I've used in on various body parts over the years and it rocks. Awhile ago, my physio in Ottawa gave me a referral for a colleague in North Van who does IMS but I can't find it using the advanced search; however here's the certifying body to which he belongs so there will be some leads there. You can find someone who's located close to you.

cool, thanks.

I can find random people online but would rather have a personal recommendation. :)

I've been waiting because I don't seem to need it anymore. Ever since my last massage appointment on Friday, plus yoga/stretching over the weekend, it has been completely fine... even after my 30km long run on Sunday. weird.

That's good! IMS is good for situations where the muscles don't respond well to manual therapy, deep tissue work. It sounds like you don't need it!
