AFR's 'quick and dirty' Army run report.

Postby AirForceRunner » Sun Sep 18, 2011 1:45 pm

Last year, I PB'ed in this race a week after running Haliburton.
This year, I started at PB pace, and quickly discovered that the pains of Haliburton, combined with the overly cushy shoes I chose (Kinvara's), were going to make for a long day.

I kept the shoes on as long as I could take them, but they hurt too much. Fekt like I'd broken something. Took them off at around the 8 km point (guessing). This took nearly 5 mins dur to the Fort Knox-like knots I had tied in them. Finished the rest of the race barefoot, which reduced the pain a bit, and certainly generated a lot of conversation around me. Limped it in around 2:07 and change (chip). Lesson learned.

Highlight of the race? DGrant and his teleportation device. That dude was everywhere!! Ottawa River Pkwy, Hull, and the finishing stretch. And I swear, dude got better looking each time too.

Had to bail on the M&G as Mrs. AFR woke up with a case of vertigo this morning.

Congrats to all who finished!!

He was the Polkaroo. He kept popping up everywhere!

Good work fighting through on a rough day, AFR.

Wow, huge props for gutting out the race! And, literally barefoot!

Sorry it wasn't the run you wanted though. Hope you figure out the shoes.

I kept hearing about someone who was running barefoot ... now I know why! Way to tough it out!

Guess a foot massage and pedicure are out of the question for tomorrow (with orange nail polish of course) to pamper your feet?

Or, some dude on the 5K course this morning, at around the 1K mark, was running on the center line and clipped himself on one of the pilons and ended up doing a face plant / shoulder roll, just missuing taking out 2-3 other runners, and just got back up and continued running, as if nothing happened ..

Now, that's one way to get in the the barefoot running niche, Airforcey ..

Amazing job mr. barefoot runner!

Sorry we didn't get to see you at the M&G, I hope your wife is feeling better.

OK, so I totally saw you on the course. In front of me - barefoot carrying shoes. Now I've seen barefoot on a half course before, but not the carrying shoes thing!  This report explains it!

Yep - lesson learned, but another race complete! :)

I passed you somewhere along the canal (I want to say in the last 2kms), and wondered what happened. The fact you were carrying shoes threw me off. To see your status when I got home, it all made sense.

The kilted barefoot runner was out in full force yesterday. Therefore, I think you'll have to share the spotlight with him... which could be a good thing, right?!
