Great race report! Sorry you had the GI issues that just sucks. That happened to me in Toronto and it was also the first time in a race. It sounds like you had a pretty good race though, all things considered, and for that you should be very proud. I think it would be hard to run a PB at these big events just because of how busy they are. I didn't know about the first 5K and the different routes..that's interesting. Congrats again. It was fun tracking you on race day! I sorted my daughter's clothes out in her room with my laptop next to me, watching you all go!

Well done.

So glad to hear how well your mom is doing as well. That's awesome.

I too teared up reading that section. So very happy for the family when I read she'd recovered 95%!

What a great race report, Jennifer! Aside from the GI issue it sounded like you had a fabulous race experience. That is one race on my bucket list ...

Very happy you've decided to go after another one. You are an amazing runner and I know it will be your day in Vancouver!

Sounds like it was still an incredible experience, even if you didn't make the time you were hoping for. The marathon is such a tough beast that way - one little thing can send it off the rails. You are in amazing shape, and I am SO glad to hear you'll be running the full in the spring! Looking forward to following your training.

Thanks everyone. Your comments mean a lot to me. :)

I was very glad to be able to salvage a good race experience from what was starting to become very difficult!

I am still not sure if I would have been able to hold my pace in the second half if I hadn't had the stomach trouble. As I said I was already slowing down a bit after 10K. But mentally I was ready to kick it up. I know I turned that mental drive off after I had to stop, but my legs were still dead and post-wall-like in the last 10K. So who knows. I did a lot of 30K+ runs for this training, but it didn't seem to help get past that wall. I may just need a lot of surplus endurance training to reach my predicted marathon potential. Practically I am not interested in doing a lot more miles than I did, so I will keep on training to improve at the shorter distances and see where it gets me first.

Thanks again for reading.

Sounds like the perfect New York minute through the race. Sounds like your whole family embraced the experience and your sister was a great sub for your mom. It was great when you can share something that, with the folks that have been there with you and for you. And I know for sure that a wolf is definitely faster than a moose--no matter what the clock says.

Congrats

It was great to see you, however briefly. Even though you time wasn't what you'd hoped and trained for, any day we can run a marathon is a good day. Great report. Glad to hear your mum is doing well.

Oh dear, I'm so sorry I missed your report earlier!

Thank you for sharing the magical experience Jenn. That was a great writeup, you described it so well I can imagine being there with you. What a magical place NYC is - the whole experience sounds so incredible that it doesn't even matter how you did for the race itself, it transcends it. Much like Boston must be, I imagine.

Congrats on a great marathon, and I too got teary about the part about your mom. So glad that you enjoyed the whole experience, despite the GI issues!

Congrats Jen! I'm so sorry that you had GI issues, but so happy for you that your Mom was there in spirit and that she was able to track you and share the excitement. It must have been wonderful for your sister to be there with you. I can only imagine the mixed emotions that you experienced. I'm so happy that you were able to enjoy the overall experience and the magic of New York.
Congrats again.

Thanks Bob! Although I disagree about my pictures! I look like I'm in pain in most of them. Except maybe one finish line one.

A few times when I thought I was being photographed I smiled and looked happy- but none of those ended up there.
