Re: Gastrointestinal Issue During Runs

I knew a guy back in my army days who chewed tobacco, and he would have intense GI problems on our morning runs. If you chew tobacco, cut that out. Other factors that I know of are coffee. If you are having GI runs, perhaps have a coffee 1-2 hours before to "jump start" the whole problem a...

Re: Speed, or endurance what's more beneficial to focus on?

Well your 10 k times after not running for so many years are pretty good, so you still have the genes and body type that made you a success in your childhood. My advice is don't overdo the speed training, as it is going fast that does things like pull muscles and strain joints. I pulled a hamstring ...

Long Slow Sunday

Hi maniacs! I am heading out for 15 kms today, at an easy pace. First, down to the Farmer's Market, then eat, then run!

Enjoy the day!

Re: Boston 2015 Field size

Hey that's cool!

I was looking at qualifying times for my impending age group (50!) and thinking it would be hard to smash that time. I am pretty sure I can run 3:30 by next year, so the larger field means I can squeak by and still run Boston in my 5th decade on this wonderful planet! :D

Ran 13 kms today, my longest run this year I think. Going to visit the Taste of the Danforth this afternoon (a Greek food festival!). That will be a fun way to loosen up!

Re: The Long Run in Marathon training

Interesting essay you wrote! That's the cool part about marathon training - you have lots of time to think while you are out there putting in the miles. Myself, I just pick a Hal Higdon plan and follow it while keeping track of how my body feels. The day after a long run, I do a short Easy Run - unl...

Re: Run across Canada and back

http://www.runnersworld.com/cold-weather-running/how-keep-fuel-freezing-winter This Runner's World article has some ideas. When I was in the army 30 years ago we used to carry rations and liquids inside the liners of our winter coats. If you are running in -30 temperatures I am sure you will have a...

Re: Running in a 5K and not sure where to start..

Hello everyone!! I have signed up for a 5K in October and I'm not sure where to start. I am doing the C25K program and I do weight train but should I be doing anything different? I try to eat healthy, I eat fruits and veggies quite often but I don't eat a lot of meat. For some reason I don't feel w...

Re: Have you lost too much weight trying to get faster?

I am in the camp of people who lost weight without meaning to - turns out I was Celiac and didn't know it yet. I was eating 3500 cals/day and losing weight. I got pretty fast but I think that was just because I was training hard, not because of the weight loss...eventually in Boston 2011 I ran my wo...

Just curious, but why do you want to run it every year? What is it that makes Boston a yearly event for you?

Re: Boston Marathon -- New Cap Perhaps ??

I agree that after two Boston marathon experiences, I was done for a while also. I know there are some record-setters who have gone every year for most of their adult lives, but for a recreational runner like myself, I find just running alone on a pathway through the woods to be equally satisfying. ...

Great results, Jogger Barbie! I will take that finishing time, any day! :)

I am going out for 5-6 kms; hurt my foot yesterday, need to see if it hurts when I run! It felt okay most of the day, after RICE therapy last night.

Run safe, Maniacs!

Ugh! Ran 5 kms on Thursday, 7 kms on Saturday, 5 kms on Sunday, and all excited about the warm weather...then a student slams her chair leg down on my foot (by accident) and I am icing and resting it and hoping I can run tomorrow! :(

Re: Restart Sunday

Happy running everyone! I ran 40 minutes this morning, didn't track the distance. Like Fingerboy, getting back into the running thing.

This is my 5th run this week, no problems so far, just building up the base to go stronger and faster.
