Re: Noakes: Time to move beyond a brainless exercise physiology

It sounds (to me) like the cash prize test was performed before a final test, so I would assume they've their all (for the cash) then did another test after.

Re: Hot weather exercise

Very interesting! I always thought I performed poorly in heat. This helps me understand it's mostly in my head :) I wouldn't say it's mostly in your head but rather controlled by it. :) I think we still all need to heed the warning signs of heat but the way I understand it, it sounds like our brain...

Re: Noakes: Time to move beyond a brainless exercise physiology

Mind over muscle April 14, 2010 By Alex Hutchinson There’s an interesting preprint available online from the European Journal of Applied Physiology, by Samuele Marcora and a colleague from Bangor University in Wales. Its title is “The limit to exercise tolerance in humans: mind over muscle?,” so you...

Re: Hot weather exercise

Also on another note. Last years ORW had the same concerns for weather. In fact not only was the predicted weather hotter, the preceding weeks were actually hotter (I was in my pool in April!). As it turned out there was a last minute weather change and all was good. I still took some precautions li...

Hot weather exercise

After all the weather warnings concerning this weekends predicted heat spell I thought this may be of interest. " More evidence that heat is in your head (or neck) May 27th, 2011 comment In the last month, I’ve posted about palm cooling, face-warming, and a study that suggested that some of the...

Re: ORW shirts

Picked up my kit last night. A bit disappointed that you don't even get a bag of some sort with your shirt. I miss the drawstring bag from 2 years ago. As it turned out I didn't need it since the free schwag was non-existent. I was hoping to at least score some cheap gels. Oh well, sign of the finan...

Re: Another Rider Says Lance Armstrong Took EPO

Blah blah blah blah, here we go again. I am disgusted with myself for even reading this thread and wasting 30 seconds writing this. This is nothing compared to the forums at cycling news. They have a Lance thread thats 68 pages long, been going since before Christmas and pages of it are devoted to ...

Re: Another Rider Says Lance Armstrong Took EPO

I really don't care what he took. My opinion of him will not change. +1 There are a lot of people who are idolized. Some way less worthy than LA. Livestrong has raised millions of dollars for cancer research and education, as well as donated 1/2 a million to Hurricane Katrina relief. If overlooking...

Lots of LA haters around eh? How come he's only rated a "4" here then? I think its pathetic how these so called friends are all insisting on taking people down with them. It's your ship captain - sink on your own. Feel like the above link that SteveF posted needs to be pointed out again. ...

Lance played the game and won. Now everyones trying to change the rules since they lost . I'm curious to know what rule changed... last time I checked it was against the rules to dope in 1999, too. jono I'm talking about how it was OK for Landis and company to dope before they got caught :D Now the...

Gawd people. Do you all believe in Santa Claus too? That's 5 ex-teammates now that have said Lance took drugs. All corroborating the same story. Another half-dozen ex-teammates that have tested positive. Lance doped. If Hincapie, the most trusted guy in the peleton, a "brother" to Lance, ...

Re: Laundry soap for running clothes?

Hmmm I must try the baking soda and/or powder. My stuff stinks. I'll run it and think "Wow I stink!" then take it off and realize its the clothing! :?
I used to use fabric softener on all my stuff. Will using a "clean" detergent bring it back or is it done for?

For best results, consume one POWERBAR GEL Carbohydrate Electrolyte Blend with 475 ml of water every 20–45 minutes during activity. That's a quote from the PowerBar website. Let's do some math... 5 hours X 60 minutes/hour = 300 minutes 300 minutes X 1 gel / 20 minutes = 15 gels 15 gels X 475 ml wat...

Yeah - 1 more agreeing that 16 is too much. I don't normally get any stomach issues but the thought of just trying to get down 16 makes me gag. I have used 4 gels. This year. I have done a couple trail runs with peanut butter cups and/or those meal replacement drinks. Normally in a marathon, I would...
