Re: Banff Marathon

Why would Banff have a high no show rate, especially if it was so expansive? Would people be no show just because the course was no longer scenic? Or they didn't want to be eaten by bears. How bad could this friendly little guy be? Seems welcoming. http://cdn.images.express.co.uk/img/dynamic/...

Re: Hot breakfast cereals

Skip the Holy Crap, it's ... well ... crap. I don't know how anyone could eat an entire bowl. I have to agree with you on that! I really like steel-cut oats. Mixed with a bit of brown sugar and sometimes flax seeds. They take a while to cook but they are much better than the quick-cooking or slow-c...

The Tough Kegger - A beer run taken to the next level?

Running, adventure race & beer... need i say more?

Move over Tough Mudder, there's a new bad boy on the westcoast. A local craft brewery in Gibsons BC, Persephone Brewing Co., is hosting an event they have named the The Tough Kegger.

Re: You've done the beer mile, you've done the donut 5k

FWIW: bacon and gummy bears are not uncommon at aid stations in many ultras. I've heard of this. It seems logical since bacon can be so high in sodium and thus it help in the replacement of sodium that is lost during a race. I'm like DT and Robinandamelia HELL YEAH! oh hell yeah I could do that one...

That saying is so true in golf. Interesting that you find that in running too.

Amen to that!

Re: 2014 Calgary Marathon Turns 50

The 50 K 5:30 pace bunny is Simon Donato of the show Boundless and so a good way to start the race. All of the weather sites now seem to share the same forecast. 30 - 40% chance of showers and one hopes it is late day. I am in such a good frame of mind that the prospect of some showers is good as i...

Re: First Marathon - Oct 19th Toronto Waterfront

First, welcome to RM! 1. Yes, but it's an ambitious goal. As Michael says, the key will be to stay healthy during the upcoming five months. Build slowly and gradually. 2. You could check out programs on-line by Jeff Galloway (he uses a run/walk approach) or Hal Higdon (beginner's program). Or, you c...

Any day that you can run and finish a marathon is a good day! :) I was tracking you as best I could from the Sportstat app, I saw your half time and I knew you were on pace. I was texting back 7 forth with Cheryl and realized you were having a difficult 2nd half since...

I’ve done the equivalent of that distance (about 120Km) in the Lake of the Woods, just south of Kenora Ontario near Rushing River Provincial Park in a week and that was nuts. We had to deal with the ever changing weather and a pesky bear, but attempting to do what you did in less than 2days is crazy...

Well done Jennifer and kudos for sticking to the plan that was executed to perfection! The last kilometre was brutal—around the bend and up a gradual but significant hill on Pender Street to the finish. It was hard to pick up the pace, but I did stay strong and controlled, and finally heard Steve Ki...

Welcome to RM! Loots of good advice here for you. And I want to do well, but need to balance it with pushing myself smartly . First, work on your base and slowly build that up. As your base progresses you will start to notice improvements. Your endurance will start greatly improve and as that is inc...
