Re: When is DQ not a DQ ???
Well, Grunewald was reinstated and Salazaar dropped his protest. There was definitely contact between the runners, and from my point of view Salazaar was acting in the best interests of his athlete. Re: Goals vs. Systems
So is everything a goal.
I could just say my goal is to have an awesome training cycle, and I'll do whatever event at the end just for fun. Seems legit to me.

Well when you put it that way... I think the goal need only be pretty basic. Just enough that you are laying the right foundation. Distance running vs guitar playing may be enough

Re: Goals vs. Systems
This makes me think of a link that BaldGuy posted on FB the other day about "Why procrastinators procrastinate" . I found the accompanying piece, "How to beat procrastination" and I latched on to the key item: laying bricks. No one “builds a house.” They lay one brick again and a...

Re: Heel Raise vs Calf Raise?
They are essentially the same. The names are used interchangeably. It's unclear if you are qualifying only the heel raises as "standing". If so, the distinction you are making is whether you start in a flat standing position or the more traditional edge of a step with deficit (dorsiflexed)...

Re: Greg McMillan's GPS rules
I like all his points (regardless of the reasoning on #3). I usually try to use the Garmin as a post run analysis tool, not a real time pace adjustment tool. Although I have occationally found relief when confronted with a feeling of fatigue or over exertion during a race when I discover that my pac...

Broke records in strict press (125#), push press (165#) and split jerk (185# more than bodyweight!). Feeling pretty good right now.

Re: Nutrition and depression
I know that diet doesn't cause the depression since I don't always have it, but I wonder if it contributes. My "mood disorder" (if you can call it that) was cyclical, so I wouldn't be so sure about your above statement. I would like to do the experiment on myself but cutting sugar and pro...

Re: Nutrition and depression
Alcohol is also a depressant. I just saw a study that claims there is no link, or at least the link is causal: Booze doesn't cause depression Plus this: The researchers also debunked the myth that claims moderate alcohol consumption reduces the risk of depression. (bolded "also" because I...

All these times are amazing so I watch more than I wonder. Thought it strange that security was so bad that some bozo got to run in just ahead of him. You would think that as a World Major and after Boston etc.., there might have been "an intervention" of some kind.......or maybe a taser....

Re: New Marathon World Record
I'm sure it's a possibility, but a 9 second effort vs 2 hour effort is quite different. I'd like to see a chart like that for middle distance.
We could see a freak of nature like Bolt in the marathon, but I'd be surprised.

Re: Eating breakfast doesn't help against obesity
Fat mobilizes in the absence of insulin. Fat is stored in the presence of insulin. Eating dietary fat, protein and high fibre carbohydrates result in no insulin production or very little insulin production. Easting processed sugars and grain results very high insulin production. Calories in = calori...

Re: Turn your road bike into a triathlon bike!
Yeah it didn't have the scientific rigour you'd want to make 100% conclusions, especially on the magnitude side. The outdoor results are the most suspect - if they'd used multiple riders and way more runs (to eliminate environmental factors like changing wind, etc) then I'd be more inclined to take...
