Smart kid.
He'll have a far more secure future as an engineer than a professional athlete.

Epic vistas, a big dinosaur... and awesome racing!
I know all about the nasty crosswinds... I get killed in road races here every time the wind blows as a 130lb climber type. Gutter racing favours the heavy dudes.

No offense taken.
While Sherwood Park may be a great place to live, but a tourist destination? Hell no!
Europeans watching the race may be intrigued though. Big, wide open spaces are rare in Europe.. and may appeal. But again... Banff is just way better!

Eurosport is covering today again.
The camera feed reliability has been poor. Probably the worst I've seen for a top level event. And cut the clips of the mayors pimping their cities and towns.. awful, just awful.

At IM Regensburg they took my picture with my bike, holding my race number. They pull it up on the computer as you leave transition... good for a big race, but impossible for smaller events.

Cheered my ass off at the prologue. Decent crowds, not huge, but decent. Was really cool to hang outside the team buses. You can get right up to the riders.. and a lot of them are quite friendly too. Cadel was hugely popular... he was loving it. Couple of my buddies rode the "citizen's prologue...

Re: Turn your road bike into a triathlon bike!
If you have the money, get both bikes. If you don't, consider which is most appropriate to your riding. With the explosion of fondo riding, I'd think most people would opt for a roadie with clip-ons as a compromise. I'd take the time to slam the seat forward and drop the handlebars though, maybe a s...

I am really impressed with what I saw of the coverage.
My wife and I really want to give either race a go, but the price to fly to Ottawa or Montreal... we could almost go to Europe!

Good job on finishing; Don't read too much into the crappy marathon split (large proportion of AGers do perceptually poorly here). Maybe this experience will motivate you to get into triathlon I've been doing triathlon since 2002. This was my 7th iron distance race. I've ran 3:41 in an iron distanc...

Part 2 the race! The night before the race made the decision to eat as early as possible. I had eaten early before the Oliver ½ iron in June and I was able to digest and get to bed by 8, so I suggested to Naomi we do the same for Iroman. I think we finally fell asleep around 8:30 or so. Our alarms w...

Challenge Roth 2013
This is part 1... I don’t usually write race reports. I stopped when I walked away from blogging in 2009. However, Roth was a unique bucket-list type race, and I have had many requests for some details… so here goes. I had always heard about the legendary Challenge Roth race, but never considered do...

IIRC, dehydration improves performance to a point for runners... but not the same for cycling because running is weight bearing.
The loss in performance from dehydration would not offset the very marginal increase in W/kg...

The wall of sound as you turn towards Solar Berg is pretty amazing eh! You read the reports, you see the pics, but it's nothing compared to actually riding it. The hill at Greding was packed too. And there was another hill that was packed on the first lap... but not sure exactly where on the course...
