explanation- world record holder

Postby flexrun » Wed Apr 22, 2009 10:50 pm

Hi everybody,

I would like to explain about the world record. I talked to one of the organizers that deals with the mobility division at the BAA and she said that they wanted to put Whitehead and I together at the start of the race to run against each other, but after contacting the IAAF they were told that we are in separate categories and therfore he has his double amputee world record and I have mine for single amputee. So they decided to leave us where we were. He started in the mobility impaired division at 9:30 am. I knew before I started the race that I needed a sub 3:04 for the world record.

They also told me that the IAAF would be starting to recognize our world record times.

I think that the more amputees that race the better the competition and the more awareness for us which is positive.

Good to hear from you Rick. We heard Ian's story in his race report-- looking forward to yours.

Congratulations!

Thanks for clarifying that. I was utterly confused at the time wondering why I had remembered 3:04 when other numbers were being thrown around...

Thanks for the clarification Rick, but in any event following your journey has been AWESOME! You're everywhere now! I even had my non-runner husband asking me how you were doing!

Can't wait for the report! (uh no pressure here!)

Oh BTW, are you still running Mississauga?
