Let's talk about moderators
(I think I'll start a whole series of "let's talk about" topics for the newcomers ;)
This came up in another thread, so I'd like to take this opportunity to explain the mods and what they do, in case anyone is wondering.
When RM was first starting out, I asked for volunteers to be moderators, to help me. Most of the current mods were those original volunteers, though we have picked up a few more along the way.
The purpose of the mods is to help keep order and peace around here. Sometimes that is mundane stuff like getting rid of spam posts. Sometimes it involves asking someone to edit their posts if something is posted that breaks one of the forum rules--or if it is an urgent situation, editing it themselves (for example, if someone were to post an obscene picture, we will edit it right away rather than waiting around for the poster to come and do it themselves). Sometimes the mods will move and/or split threads, as we have seen, so that things stay on topic and to avoid detrimental hijacks. When and how they do this is up to each mod's own judgment. One might decide to make a change that another wouldn't--and that is generally ok. If in doubt, we do discuss things as a group and give each other feedback.
But more important than all of these things is my own personal expectation of the mods--I hope and expect that they are helping to set the tone here and direct conversations in positive ways. Overall I think they do an AWESOME job at that, and I'm sure most of you will agree. In fact, they do a much better job at it than I could ever do by myself, since they are far more patient and diplomatic (and far less oppositional) than I tend to be, lol.
We have been very fortunate to have an amazing community here that needs very little moderating, which means that our mods have to do very little. This is a good thing, and I'm very thankful to all of you who contribute. :)
If you have any questions or comments, feel free to discuss it here.

I'm also very thankful to our mods (whoever you are). Its one of those jobs that is thankless when you do it well. Big shout-out for a job well done.

Mods, could you please ask Andy to stop writing in that teeny tiny text? My old eyes, and my itty bitty laptop can't read it without squinting, and I'm blaming him for all wrinkles around my eyes.

I <3 the moderators and administrators. I can't even begin to imagine the things you have to do behind the scenes to keep a rambunctious bunch of kids at heart (well most of us) in line some days.
It's a thankless job, and it's time for me to say THANK YOU!!
And after looking at the list, I realized that I have indeed met all of you - how cool is that
