Why Can't I Learn How to Do An Avatar?

Postby The Donald » Tue Nov 20, 2007 9:32 am

I have attempted to follow the avatar sizing/posting instructions, but I just can't get it. How do I do this? I can't get it right! Help!!

A frustrated avatarless Donald

I am so frustrated, I even put this in the wrong area. Sorry moderators.
No one cares what I would do; therefore, I can do anything!!

I ran 42.2k; Let's see the other donald try to trump that

I upload my photos to photobucket (it's free) then paste the url link to my profile ... easy-peasy ... no adjustments required ... :P

I did that but couldn't get it to the right size. Their avatar size is 100 x 75 pixels and ours must be 80 x 80. What am I doing wrong.

no need to do any adjustment from photobucket if you use the third option in your RM profile ...

Try pasting the link into the third choice on your RM profile screen (link to off-site Avatar) rather than the upload option.

I meant that to both of you. Thanks! Now if I could find the appreciative bowing smilies, I would put them here for you to see!

Ah well, me too. I had to reassemble my work computer when I got it, it was in various pieces in boxes around my office.

I can post an avatar, but I can't "unpixalate" it. (Is that a word?)

Does that happen because the resize function is actually making your avatar larger? Maybe you should try upload instead of link?

Actual size:

The width should be as close to 100 pixels as possible.
The length doesn't matter.

Trixiee's pic is 66 wide x 100 long. The pixellation is due to the fact it is being enlarged to bring the width up to 100.

yeah... if you upload it the size is 80px wide. But if you link to it then it automatically resizes to 100px (this is so that the full-size original picture doesn't show, which would be really bad!). So if it's smaller than 100 and you're linking it, then it's going to stretch to fit the 100px and that's why it looks pixelated. Make sense?

A little late to the discussion,

if you're uploading to photobucket you don't have to do anything with the size at all. Use the biggest picture you can find and resizing will handle it. If you click on the profiles of maniacs who have nice looking avatars you see the avatar in its original size.

It depends on the image. Some look great, others look pixelated and I've been unable to figure why. Consequently, I just resize them to 100 wide so I know what it's going to look like before linking the image. (No, I never change mine, but I have done some for other people.)
