There's "that kind" of new member 20 times a day.
Just ignore them, and like magic --- presto & gone.
Thanks mods!

Yep. I'm waiting for his or her first post so I can finish my Christmas shopping.

Methinks that someone, somehow, is hacking into the forum and playing around.

I created a profile about a week ago (actually created a new one 'cause I lost all the info regarding my old profile) and made a couple of posts. A couple of days later I went back and saw to my dismay that my user name had been changed to something along the lines of the user this thread is about, and my profile had been hacked around and made really
explicit. Although this is not great for the forum, I am glad to know that it is not just me or that I am not using a plague ridden PC!

that was an isolated incident, though, and not related to the regular spammers... someone got access to your profile specifically, which means that they either were on your computer (do you use a shared computer at work or home?) or otherwise is someone who knows what your password was...

So sorry. Call me an innocent, but I couldn't imagine anyone voluntarily creating a non-legit profile like that, so I figured that maybe my case was not isolated. I think this forum is fabulous - it truly reflects the hard-work and dedication of the admins and mods. I was not trying to cast stones.

Unfortunately, the spammers are constantly creating new accounts (if you watch the "newest member" at the bottom of the page it changes frequently... and you'll see the spammers in there until I delete them). They go to a surprising amount of trouble--for example, we have several that will keep registering over and over again, every day, and I keep deleting them every day. They don't give up...

Yours was the first case I've heard of where they actually modified someone else's account instead of creating their own... which is why I wonder if it's someone who actually knows you and/or has access to your computer.

No worries in any case. I'll just keep getting rid of them as often as they keep coming. It's kinda like that old asteroids game... lol.

Their only purpose is to put a website in their profile, hoping that they will not be deleted before a bot pulls that profile info and adds it to a search engine. The more times a URL appears on unique websites, the higher it's rank.

Holly, have you thought of changing up the register form a little?

99.5% of all spam accounts are created via software, which rely on the registration form being vanilla. So I know on my forums, I just added another form field that was mandatory. I think I had, what was your first bike or something. Anyway, it was a field that had to be entered. Then I made one called how many bikes do you have, which was not only mandatory, but the result also had to be an integer. Presto, I went from 2-300 spam accounts a week, to less than 3.

Might be worth your while!
