Around the Bay Training Schedule
Around the Bay Training Schedule
I will be running ATB 30K 2011 and it will be my 3rd time running it but my first time running it as my "A" race (probably) and not as a lead up to a spring marathon. I took a look at the training schedule provided on the ATB site and it looks to have a bit less mileage than I have done in the past in preparation for this race. It might be a good thing for my current fitness level and my goal is to "finish" but I certainly don't want to be undertrained. What training have you used or what are you planning on using for this 30K race?
2014 Races:
Around the Bay 30K - DNS
ORW Marathon - 3:38:11 - PB & first BQ!!!!
Personal Bests:
Marathon - May 2014 - 3:38:11-----30K - Mar 2013 - 2:37:42----1/2 Marathon - Oct 2013- 1:38:53----10K - Oct 2012 - 45:31-----5K - Feb 2009 - 22:21
Re: Around the Bay Training Schedule
I may be in the same boat as you this year, as I don't plan on doing a full marathon until late 2011.
My opinion:
If you want to really run it as an "A" race, then consider using a "personal best" type 18-week (starts next week!) marathon training plan.
- you could trim shorter runs here and there, and put more focus on speed
I can't remember who it was on this board, but someone described ATB as a marathon without the 12k of badness at the end.
I'd like to see what others have to say about this.

Re: Around the Bay Training Schedule
I agree, try just trimming a marathon plan a bit.
Last year I basically treated it as a marathon - and did some (2 I think) 30K LSD's and lots between 25-28. This year it MAY be part of a spring marathon plan for me, so I may up the mileage a bit, but we'll see.
I find it harder to get he mid-week longer (13-16K) runs in in the winter though.
Good Luck!

Re: Around the Bay Training Schedule
My g/f and I trained last winter for ATB using the schedule on their website (*I did not run the full race due to injury). The thing I would have done differently is at least one run over 25k and done either more hill training in general or had more hills during our LSD.
The last 10k for the ATB is tough and I think we were undertrained for that part. Otherwise I think the program was pretty good for a "To finish" goal.

Re: Around the Bay Training Schedule
Consider a marathon training schedule but cut any race pace runs to 3/4 the distance and run these at 30K race pace instead of MP.
I am fortunate to have Running Free as a sponsor. I like to keep silly stats and maps of my Daily Neighbourhood Tours, Races and Marathons run in a Silly Yellow Shirt.
