New ASICS shoes.

Postby jgore » Fri Jan 13, 2006 8:13 pm

I was wondering if anyone has tried the new 2110 or 1110 models yet. It appears to me that ASICS are making some major structural changes to their shoes. They completely destroyed the Gel-Cumulus that I loved - turned it from an excellent distance trainer to a more lightweight racing shoe - and I think they may have made a big mistake by altering a couple of very popular shoes too drastically.

The new 2110 feels lower and has more of a heel-grip sensation than its predecessor. With the 1110, they've extended the denser stabilizing portion of the shoe.

I've never run in the 2100/1100 or their predecessors - don't need the stability - but did try them on. The new ones don't feel the same. I'd be interested to see if users think ASICS has improved the shoes or have changed them too much.

Rule #1...Don't mess with success. That's why very few runners (at least, ones that pay for their own shoes) wear Nikes any more.

The 2100's are still on sale. Why the heck would I want to try 2110's when I can get 2100's for $129 or less.

JGORE question for you...

I have tried the 2110 and so far like them however, I would prefer the orange accent ones that are on display on the RR website (purely on a fashion note). Can the store order them orange and white. Or is it what they get is what they sell?
Cheers,

Jenn, the people at the local store can search the company database to see if any stores have the colour you're looking for. Most times a store will receive only one colour per shipment and the local folks don't know which it will be until they show up. However, the company does a good job of tracking what colours are available. One thing to remember is that the RR will likely not have all variations available from any manufacturer, nor will they have all widths. The picture on the website was likely provided by ASICS and the colour shown isn't necessarily one of those stocked by the RR.

Hey Jim I am or have-bin a Gel Cumulus all the way for the past 6 years or so. Always the same shoe same size year after year. But  This new pair I got is way different! I even had to buy a smaller size?!

Don't mess with success !! Well said!

Can't say I have looked at other Asics but for my next pair I might be going for a different bran!

I love my ASICS but detest the constant re-engineering of them. I've worn Gel Kayanos, Gel DS Trainers and about four models that don't exist anymore and have never gotten the same shoe twice.

I can understand the shoemakers doing this for the blingy shoes like Air Jordans or the stuff the teenagers at the mall wear but why the need to constantly change the shoes that only appeal to running nerds?

That's my rant for now.

That's what I did with the 2090s... still workin' on my last pair of those, along with my first pair of 2100s, which are also fine. Yep, time for me to stock up on a few more 2100s...

They've changed the color (silver mesh instead of navy), but nothing else, which is why the navy one haven't dropped in price :(

New Asics

Postby barebuns1 » Mon Jan 30, 2006 11:27 pm

I am doing my training in the Gel Nimbus VII. Once you get past the colour they are OK. With the tread design I feel like there is a lump right behind my big toes. They are pricey, though, the cheapest place I have seen them advertised is Roadrunner sports out of the US. For my racing I wear Asics DS trainer VIII up to 10 kms races. Than for the trails I have a pair of Asics Gel Eagle trail IV.
If you have to ask me why I Run, You probably wouldn't understand!

I'm not sure about the price of the Nimbus', but checkout www.eastbay.com

(2100's go from 69.99-89.99)

Many of last years models are on sale. I find you have the best luck by just typing "asics" into the search. Anymore speific and you may not get what you are looking for.

I am trying out a pair of the new Asics 2110. The 2100's didn't work for me as well as the NB 766's. Does anyone know how the Asics 2110's compare to the NB 766's? (I still like the NB's, but trying to find a different pair I can alternate with them.)

Have you purchased shoes from eastbay.com before? Did they nail you with shipping or customs at the border?

I bought new Gel DS Trainers earlier this year from Eastbay. They dinged me for customs - probably $15 bucks for the shoes as I had other things in the order. It took about 2 weeks and I ended up saving around $80 total.

It worked for me because I knew my size exactly and knew I wouldn't have a problem with the shoe (not my first pair of this model) - I'd be nervous about ordering an unfamiliar shoe or size.

I just bought a pair of 2110's two runs ago.
I wore the 1100's. I find the 2110's very similar except the 2110's do have a snugger heel fit, which feels nice to me. I am happy with them.
