the ongoing issues with my garmin....
I just uploaded a bunch of runs and there are only maps for the past two weeks. Before that the maps are blank.
I tried both via sporttracks and runningfreeonline, with the same result.
thoughts?

Re: garmin losing route maps?
Did you notice they were there on the other programs and now they are blank? Or were they never there?
How are you transferring the data?
Garmin seemed to make a change in it's file export from Garmin Connect, but that was back on March 9. Since then anything exported in .tcx or .gpx format isn't bringing maps. If you are still using Garmin Training Centre, the maps do transfer.
If a program is getting the data directly from Garmin Connect's API (like Strava) the maps transfer.
This is one reason that I switched to using Garmin Connect as my main log now.

Re: garmin losing route maps?
I tried to like garmin connect but couldn't make it work for me.
These days I'm using the communicator plugin to upload to runningfreeonline, and also a direct link to sporttracks on my computer. Both are missing the map data.
Someone in my running club suggested that I've got too much data in there and it's pushing out old maps to save space. So today I dumped it, and we'll see if that helps. Or I just need to upload it more frequently than every few months. :P

Re: garmin losing route maps?
So it sounds like those programs get the data directly from the Garmin Communicator plug-in API?
If that's the case then this is a separate issue than what I described above.

Re: garmin losing route maps?
sporttracks doesn't use the communicator plugin... it's not web-based.

Re: garmin losing route maps?
Have you cleared/deleted your garmin history regularly?
I remember in the past if the memory on my garmin was almost full, it would start to truncate details of earlier workoits, netc in order to maintain the new workout details??

So how does Sporttraks get the data? You are exporting the file from GTC?

Re: garmin losing route maps?
I have no idea. I plug in the garmin and hit the import button in sporttracks. :)

I think it still uses the Garmin Communicator plugin. I use Sporttracks, and the other day I uninstalled the plugin as I was having difficulties uploading a workout. I thought it might be a conflict with Garmin Express. When I tried to use Sporttracks after that it said I needed to download the plugin. I had to install IE since Chrome doesn't download the plug in anymore. After reinstalling, everything worked fine.
You could always uninstall and reinstall the plugin to see if it makes a difference.
