This is still 27 sec slower than the 10,000 m track record. Why is there such a difference between the two? Elevation changes?

IAAF defines the difference - Komon ran a 10 kilometer (a road race)
Keneisia Bekele ran 10,000 metres (same distance) but on track
Not the quarry but the chase,
not the trophy but the race.

I've read some stuff that suggests its the track material - engineered track designed to go fast vs. road asphalt designed for cars.

OK, that makes sense. I was thinking the corners would make it slower than a road race. Amazing either way - those guys are running 10k at close to my all-out sprint pace. I doubt I could run much more than 200 m at a 2:40 pace.

Amazing. Anyone got a link to any video? I'd love to see it.
