Hi there - I thought I would say "Hello". I am a new member - newbie to running - I used to run cross country when I was much, much younger - haven't done any real running in more than 20 years - but recently met a top level runner - got motivated - and here I am.

I do have a question - well two actually ...

1. What do you use to track your runs - certainly not ready for a garmin - but wonder if you can suggest anything to just track simple info - time(s), distance, maybe calories.

2. Sports underclothes - this is really for the gals  - any suggestions on the best under running wear. If this topic has been covered elsewhere pls let me know.

For the first year of running, I would measure the distance of my runs with something like Google Earth and then time my runs with a normal stopwatch. Calories I would just track on any calorie counter website where you just input your weight, time running and how fast. IMO, it's just a guesstimate anyways.

Welcome! :D

Garmin is hard to beat for tracking your runs. You could check ebay for used 201 or 301, or invest in a 205/305 (the 3's have a built in heart rate monitor, which isn't essential).

As for undergarments, Sugoi is a popular brand. I'd check your local running store see what they have.

Welcome Geisha Girl. I was born in Hamilton and raised in Burlington.

Cute dog - there are a lot of dog owners and dog threads here.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

My avatar is my dog - Geisha Girl - pic was taken at the Wiggle Waggle Walk-a-thon in Burlington a few years ago. She is a sweet dog - not much of a running companion - I took her out yesterday (for a 2km walk/run) and she layed in the grass after 5 mins. She is used to much more slow paced walks with my 85 year old dad. Ah well - it is a good thing she is cute!!

Welcome! Yes, your dog is a cutie patutie.

When I first started running I had this little pedometer where you would put in your stride length (say 1meter) then it would calc. the distance based on your number of steps. They are not too expensive and it will give you a fairly accurate idea of how far you are going. Just make sure you check the calibration every once in a while as your gait may change. There are a bunch available here on the RR website for only about $20.

Welcome!

If you have an ipod nano you can get a nike+ sensor to track your distance. About $40.

Thanks for the welcome everyone. One week in and this running thing seems to be going really well. Tracking on Itsmyrun.com is helping me keep motivated. Looking forward to getting to know you and this sport you all love. :)
