Angus Glen Spring 10 Miler

Postby Robinandamelia » Sun Apr 05, 2009 4:22 pm

I ran this race today and finished in 1:37 (171 out of 327). It was a great race, my first at this distance. It was at the Angus Glen Golf Course. We could not have had better weather, especially since yesterday was freezing and tomorrow they are forecasting snow. The day started at 1 celcius and was at around 8 celcius on my drive home, nice and sunny.

The course is on the paths of the golf course, so it is pretty hilly. I found that the three biggest hills though, were at the end, between 12 and 15 km markers. They had a lot of refreshment stations four or five, and port a potties if you needed them.

As the paths are quite narrow, they started the race in waves with your wave based on your 10km time. The waves departed around 3 minutes apart. They only used chip time for results. This was a good idea!

The run was a little more expensive (I found), but you got a really nice jacket, a locker/key, showers (yeah), massage (I didn't get one), and a barbeque afterwards. I listened to some of the "vetrans" who claim that it's one of the nicer events.

I was using this run as training for my first 1/2 marathon which is in Sudbury on May 3 and I'm glad I did it, it was a great race. Really enjoyed it and would definitely go back.

My training log

Why practice running slow? It comes naturally!

"There are two types of injuries that we older runners get: those that we can run with and those that we can't. And if you're over 30 and don't have one or the other, you aren't training hard enough." - Younger Legs blog
